Mission Moments

TODAY is Giving Tuesday and all gifts to the Crisis Center will be matched – up to $5,000 – by Lott McDonald’s Restaurants, owned by Derrick & Christine Lott. Derrick is a faithful board member and co-chair of our annual gala. Chris also serves on our gala committee. We are so grateful for their generosity!

Funds raised will help expand shelter, counseling and outreach services to victims of domestic violence who rely on the Crisis Center for safety and support.

Giving Tuesday is part of the Crisis Center’s year-end holiday giving campaign, which kicked-off the week of Thanksgiving and has a goal of $110,000.

Please be generous. Over 2,000 victims are counting on you!

Inflation Impacts Crisis Center

The increased cost of food, gas and everyday items is impacting so many families and businesses, and the Crisis Center is no exception. We’re paying more to feed our clients and keep the shelter warm this winter. With that in mind, please know that any gift you make this holiday season will be appreciated, no matter how large or small. We can’t do this work alone, and we are so grateful for all you do for us!

Volunteer Spotlight

Congrats to Board member Katie Abbott whose efforts and work with the Crisis Center were recently recognized in Crain's Chicago Business.

Pina

Pina Stefanelli is our Spotlight Volunteer for this month! While she had her career at Neiman Marcus, she vowed to volunteer for the Crisis Center once she retired. She has been volunteering for our Orland Park Neat Repeats for about three years. You may see Pina at the Orland store on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Pina volunteered at the Shelter helping organize and clean the donations area there, as well. When asked why she wanted to give so much of her time and talent, she replied, “I had a good life, and the mission of the Crisis Center is very near to my heart.” Thank you, Pina, for your generosity and dedication!

Want to volunteer and help the Crisis Center secure a generous donation? We’re trying to gather a group of volunteers who are willing to work a two-hour shift between 4:30 – 9:00 pm at the Orland Park Kiwanis Bingo Night one Wednesday night each month. For every volunteer who works a two-hour shift, the Crisis Center will receive $70! Interested in learning more? Transitional Housing Gets Facelift

The Crisis Center offers 49 community-based apartments for survivors of domestic violence. Four of those units are located in a four-flat apartment building owned by the Crisis Center. In the past 18 months, the building incurred massive flood damage. Recently, a $15,000 grant from the Orland Park Kiwanis was matched by the Edward and Evelyn Dik Family Foundation for a total gift of $30,000. Funds are being used to complete renovations and update two apartments in the unit.

Showered with Gifts

Thank you to the Chi Omega SW Suburb Alumnae Chapter who gathered on November 16th to "shower" our clients with bedding and pillows! Members of the group were eager to hear more about the Crisis Center and shared personal stories of how domestic violence has touched their lives.

Molly Maid Brigade

As part of its annual collection drive, employees from Molly Maid of Tinley Park delivered items they collected for infants and babies from their customers.

Gather & Give

The Crisis Center Auxiliary dropped off carloads of food, snacks and gift cards for shelter residents as part of their Gather & Give event.

Richards High School Feminism Club collected two carloads of toys and infant items, as well as some cash and gift cards. The students made flyers, visited classrooms to discuss facts about domestic violence and organized the collection for a few weeks in November.

South Oak Dodge donated $1,000 that was used to purchase grocery store gift cards for families so everyone could have a warm holiday meal.

ND Paper collected 75 coats during its coat drive. Special thanks to former CCSS employee Jay Capron for making it happen!

New Grant Supports Workforce Development Program

The Crisis Center was recently awarded $10,000 for our Choose Your Adventure Program from the Old National Bank Foundation. This grant will help us provide stipends and cover transportation costs for victims of domestic violence who are participating in this workforce development pilot program. With support from generous partners like Old National Bank, the Crisis Center can provide survivors of domestic violence with trauma-informed support as they build essential job skills and begin their job search. Survivors receive individualized assistance and resources they need to gain employment and become self-sufficient!

Host a Giving Jar Party for the Holidays

Hostess gifts like candles and wine are lovely, but maybe this year you can ask your holiday guests to do something special for victims of domestic violence in lieu of a hostess gift. We’ll supply you with a glass Giving Jar and signage. Your guests can fill the jar with gift cards and cash for our clients. Contact Lisa Molloy for more information at lmolloy@crisisctr.org.
