Greetings!
Today, Thursday, December 16 at 7:00 PM you are invited to join us in the sanctuary or on line for a special contemplative worship service that embraces the grief that can come with the holidays. We know that the Christmas season is not always filled with joy. We recognize that there are many people that need a safe space and an outlet to grieve the losses they've experienced. Our Blue Christmas worship service is designed for that very reason. We invite you, or anyone you know that could benefit from this opportunity, to participate. We will be worshiping both in-person and online.

This event is Co-hosted by Westlake United Methodist Church, Temple Beth Shalom, and the Knitzvah Team. ML&F asks that all wear masks when indoors. Some jobs are outside, and residents may not be wearing masks then, but we would hope our volunteers will-serving food, offering Knitzvah gifts. When indoors, people will be eating, so masks will be removed then. Bingo will be indoors, with masks for residents & volunteers. Some jobs happen during the day, some during the evening of the event.

Resettling Afghan Families

The small but mighty group of volunteers from Westlake United Methodist Church has helped 12 refugee families (which includes people) move into apartments that are located all over Austin. We have been joined by members from several other churches (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Westlake Presbyterian, St. Martin’s Lutheran, and St Michael’s Episcopal). We have worked with Refugees who have been referred to us by Refugee Services of Texas, Austin Jews for Refugees and we are working on helping our first Afghan family that is part of the Dunkirk project!

Right now, we need VOLUNTEERS, coffee tables, end tables, lamps, rugs, TV’s and freshly washed full and twin sheet sets, blankets, comforters and towels. And did I mention VOLUNTEERS?

We could not sustain this work without the ongoing support that WUMC has provided! Thank each of you. I am very grateful for the financial donations and the donations of furniture and household goods we have received from church members, friends, and family! If you would like to help, please contact Ann Finch at carrieannfinch@hotamil.com or 512-422-7015.
