Ever thought about a position as an elected official?

Regular City of Dover Municipal elections are held in odd-numbered years on the third Tuesday in April. The Mayor and nine Council Members are elected to four-year staggered terms on a non-partisan basis. 

Two members are elected from each of the four Council districts; the ninth member of Council and the Mayor are elected at large.


Nominating petitions are now being accepted for seats from all 4 districts as well as the mayor position.


This current term expires May 8, 2023.


The incumbents and/or newly elected candidates will take office on May 8, 2023 and the term will expire on May 10, 2027. (4 year term).

The election will take place on April 18, 2023.


The filing deadline for the position of Mayor and First, Second, Third, and Fourth District City Council Seats for the 2023 Regular Municipal Election is Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 4:30 p.m.

NEW VOTING DISTRICTS

The chart below represents the changes for new voting districts. After receiving data back from the most recent Census, staff had to make some adjustments to various districts. 


A public hearing was held on October 24, 2022 at 6:30pm in the City Council Chambers in Dover.

Leaf Collection Ending and

Changes in Street Sweeping


After January 13, 2023, regular yard waste collection rules apply. All leaves must be placed in privately owned 35 gallon or less plastic yard waste containers. Yard waste containers are picked up on the regular weekly collection schedule. 

Only loose leaves/yard waste material can be placed inside the containers. No plastic or paper bags can be used.

 

Overnight street sweeping will be suspended as of this weekend, and will take place during daytime hours.

Overnight parking enforcement will seize until March 13, 2023.

Changes to Rental Dwelling Permit Program

All property owners and property managers should have received a letter indicating a change in fees and other requirements that were adopted by City Council on November 28, 2022.

Offices Closed, Trash and Recycling Suspended

 TRASH & RECYCLING COLLECTION

 

There will be no trash or curbside recycling collection by the City of Dover on Martin Luther King Jr’s Day, Monday January 16, 2023.  Trash and recycling collection that would normally be made on Monday, will be on Tuesday, January 17 along with the normal Tuesday collection. Please have containers set out on Tuesday by 7:00 a.m.

 

Trash and recycling collection not completed on Tuesday will continue until completed. Please leave containers out for collection.
