HELP SUPPORT WHYTE HALL

Dear Karen,

On behalf of the Pines Foundation, FIPPOA and the Whyte Hall Operating Committee, we want to thank you for making the 2023 season a huge success and ask for your partnership to get next season off to a strong start. This past summer we saw unprecedented utilization of Whyte Hall. Our beloved community center is living up to its reputation as our greatest asset. We are fortunate to have a beautiful building, constructed through the generous donations of millions of dollars by community members, where we can congregate for important functional meetings, diverse events, performances, and fundraisers.

Your DONATION to the Whyte Hall Fund allows FIPPOA and The Pines Foundation to continue to subsidize countless events and programs. In 2023, a record number of bookings, over 300, including the meetings and salons of FIPPOA and the Pines Foundation, events produced by FIPAP, BOFFO, Pines Conservation Society, Pines Care Center, DRA, CoBE, Northwell Health, and the Catholic Mass, Episcopal and B’nai Olam services have been held and/or performed in the Brandon Fradd Theater, on the Albert Lepage Outdoor Pavilion and in the Solstice Foundation Meeting Room. Food for events has been prepared in the Candreva Kitchen. We have also provided a venue for the popular Yoga classes and the Pines Clean and Dry meetings. All rental fees for on-island nonprofit Pines organizations are waivedWhyte Hall continues to provide the Pines Care Center with a medical office and doctor's residence rent-free.

Like our homes, Whyte Hall endures the elements and experiences the wear and tear familiar to all of us. Building maintenance is non-stop and expensive. This past year over $35,000 was invested in upgrades and maintenance to the Pines Care Center and the Doctors apartment alone, including a new deck, and installing a fire exit window. An additional $198,000 was needed to operate and maintain the building. Thousands of more dollars were used to modernize the HVAC system, repair the elevator, install new flooring and lighting, repair decks and stairs, and make building structural improvements such as building additional storage including an enclosed convenient storage area for folding tables and chairs on the Lepage deck, facilitating event set up.

We are very grateful for the legacy grant and the substantial annual donation of Albert Lepage to the capital fund and staff budget of Whyte Hall. However, they do not cover the continually rising cost of operating Whyte Hall. The Whyte Hall Operating Committee is therefore asking the Community to reach into its pockets once again so that Whyte Hall can continue to operate as a vital center of the community.
