The Senate Fiscal Agency issued its Monthly Revenue Report for September. Revenues to the state were almost $500 million higher than estimated, and more than $2.5 billion higher than estimates for the year-to-date.
MAB's Klemet Meets with AG Nessel
MAB incoming President and CEO Sam Klemet met with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel this week. Nessel, along with 14 other Attorneys General in the country, recently signed a letter in support of the Local Journalism Sustainability Act that would create a targeted tax credit for the hiring and retention of local journalists as well as a tax credit for businesses to advertise with local broadcast radio and TV stations. Former Michigan Rep. Dan Benishek has died at 69
Former U.S. Representative Dan Benishek, who represented northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula for three terms in Congress, died last Friday (10/15). MAB President/CEO Karole White said, "The Congressman was always accessible to his constituents and met with Michigan Broadcasters in person each time we wanted to meet with him. He was a strong supporter of local broadcasters and signed the Local Radio Freedom Act every year it was introduced." Read More
Defamation by Tweet – Court Case Reminds Broadcasters to Take Cease and Desist Requests about Attack Ads Seriously

A recent controversial court of appeals decision on a defamation claim brought by Congressman Devin Nunes sends a signal to broadcasters about the care they need to give to reviewing commercial messages – particularly political attack ads – when questions are raised as to the truth of the assertions made in those ads. Alpha Media Appoints Zoe Burdine-Fly
as Regional President
Alpha Media has announced the appointment of Zoe Burdine-Fly as Regional President, effective November 1, 2021. Ms. Burdine-Fly joins Alpha Media’s leadership team from Townsquare Media. In her role with Alpha Media, she will oversee the operations, talent management and the strategic growth of 13 Alpha Media markets, including Amarillo, Bakersfield, Lincoln and Topeka. Read More
Jennifer Perez Named Chief Meteorologist at WLUC-TV
Morning Meteorologist Jennifer Perez has been promoted to the position of Chief Meteorologist at WLUC-TV6 & FOX UP. She will be the first woman to hold the position at the station. “We are thrilled to announce the promotion of Jennifer Perez to Chief Meteorologist,” said WLUC Vice President and General Manager Rick Rhoades.
Max Goldwasser Joins WXMI-TV as Reporter/Anchor
WXMI-TV (Grand Rapids) has announced that Max Goldwasser has joined the station as Reporter/Anchor. Goldwasser, a four-time award-winning journalist who comes to West Michigan from KTVZ-TV in Bend, Oregon. Read More
Radio Hall of Fame Recognizes WRIF Program Director Jade Springart With “One to Watch” Award
This past Wednesday, The Museum of Broadcast Communications announced that the Radio Hall of Fame has named Detroit Rock radio program director Jade Springart as the recipient of its One to Watch award. Springart joined WRIF as an intern and worked her way up to Program Director over the past 15 years. Read More
WDET Fires Up New Transmitter
Wayne State University's WDET-FM (Detroit) has announced that it has put their new replacement transmitter on the air this past Tuesday. The station reported earlier this year that both its 21-year-old transmitter had failed and its 34-year-old back-up transmitter was having severe issues. Read More
