NEW YEAR, NEW #LOW-WASTE GOALS

Happy New Year, LB! πŸ₯³ Now is the time we’re all thinking about changing some of our habits and making resolutions. Setting goals to reduce waste and make sustainable choices can seem daunting, but small steps can make a big impact over time. If you're looking to make eco-conscious choices in 2024, here's a fun way to get started. Additional information and details are linked below.

DIY Green Cleaning: Making your own cleaning products is a great way to reduce waste and toxins in your home while saving money! You can find DIY recipes on our website.

Take a composting class: Learning to compost is easy and fun. Join us for our upcoming compost workshop on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Environmental Services Bureau (2929 E. Willow Street). Bring a friend and register here!

Donate or swap unwanted clothes: Textiles are resource-intensive to make, are a major source of pollution, and are not recyclable in your purple cart. Host a clothing swap with friends to exchange used and unwanted clothes or donate to a local shelter or thrift store.

BYO coffee cup: Bring your own snazzy mug next time you go to your favorite cafΓ©! To-go coffee cups are lined with plastic and are NOT recyclable in your purple cart. Have you heard of the LB Reuses Coalition? LB Reuses, in collaboration with businesses in Long Beach, aims to make throw-away go away. Take a look at the participating businesses that you can bring your reusables to!

Regrow your food scraps: Why buy another bunch of green onions when you can regrow them on your kitchen counter? Just stick them in an inch of water and watch them grow!

DIY tea blend: Many disposable tea bags are made of plastic. Why not purchase tea in bulk and get creative with making your own blends?

Use a grocery list: Planning your trips to the grocery store around weekly meals helps avoid food waste!

BYO utensils: A great, easy way to reduce plastic in your life is to bring your own utensils when getting food to-go.

Please help us during leaf season by disposing of leaves and organic debris in the trash or in a compost bin. βœ… This helps us in keeping trash out of the gutter and also protects our oceans and waterways. Thank you so much for keeping LB litter-free! πŸ™
