Textbook Buy Back Information

With the closing out of the 2021-2022 school year, we wanted to make sure all students had an option to return their textbooks.

  • If you purchased your textbooks through MBS, our textbook supplier, please utilize their Online Buyback program. Students/families can log-in to the MBS bookstore (https://bnck-12.com/hinsdalecentral), and click “Sell Books.” Please complete a quote, print it out and state that the shipment will be sent back to MBS. You will be provided a prepaid shipping label and can drop the package at any UPS location. Please note that the quote is only valid for 14 days after generated. If textbooks are not returned within that 14-day window from when the quote is printed, students/families will need to log-in and generate a new quote.
  •  For a “how to” Online BuyBack video – please click here: https://vimeo.com/402584705/091cb4acb3
  • If you have any questions regarding this process, please reach out to MBS Customer Service at 1-800-325-3252
  • If District 86 purchased textbooks for you, please return these books to the Main Office before the end of the school year.
Senior Pushcoin Balances

District #86 will be issuing refund checks to all seniors with a positive PushCoin balance next month. If the graduating senior has a younger sibling, the parent can transfer the balance to the sibling if they prefer. Transfers need to occur by June 10th. Any remaining balances after June 10th will automatically be refunded via check.

There is a function in PushCoin where the parent can request a refund, but that is not necessary for the graduating seniors.
Yearbook Information

As you may know, the yearbook is sold out! If you would still like to purchase a yearbook, please order directly from the publisher here
Click on "Buy a Yearbook" and follow the prompts to make your purchase.

Please note: the reprint is only possible if 30 or more orders are received by June 15. The cost is $145, and it will ship directly to your home.

HInsdale Central Summer Reading Lists

Dear Book Lover,

Summer is quickly approaching! For me, it's the time to begin making a list of books to read by the pool. In the spirit of leisurely reading on long summer days, I wanted to share with you Hinsdale Central's Summer Reading List for 2022. Our list of book suggestions for students is broken down by grade level and theme. The recommendations come from current staff members, student-run clubs, and administration.  Depending on your role, you might use this list to share with current students or parents, to help curate your collection, or just review for your own "to read" list. In the fall, students will take a survey about their current reading habits and which book/s from the list they read; students will have conversations with each other or their teacher about their reading lives. Students will NOT be assessed on the book. The focus is on pleasure reading.

Here is an introductory letter and a simple list of the books.

Here is a more detailed list which includes links to book trailers and references to who recommended each book.

Thanks for helping support young readers!

If you have any questions or concerns (or book suggestions!) please reach out.

Best,

David Lange

2022-2023 Schedule Change Requests

Students who would like to request a change to a course they requested for the 22-23 academic year when they met with their counselor in January/February may now do so by completing our Schedule Change Request Form. These requests will be processed on a space available basis by date of request. We will do our best to accommodate your request, but our schedule is tight and some changes will not be available.

Please note that this is not a level change request. You cannot request to move to a higher level course than you were originally recommended for. If this is something you are interested in, you must first reach out to the Department Chair and they will notify us if the request is approved before we would look at availability.

The deadline to request a schedule change is Friday, August 26 to allow time for processing prior to the 1st day of school. Please reach out with any questions!
9th Grade Students - Oral Health Examination Requirements

Each child is required to present the Proof of Examination form by a dentist to the health office prior to May 15th of the school year. The dental examination must have been completed within the 18 months prior to the May 15th deadline.

The Proof of School Dental Examination form and the Dental Examination Waiver form are uniform for statewide use. The forms are available in the following links for your convenience:

COVID-19 Updates

District 86 has experienced an increase in positive COVID-19 cases during the past few weeks (we had nine cases on April 22, 17 cases on April 29 and 82 cases on May 6). With this in mind, we want to share information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about ways you can help slow the spread of the virus.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, or use the inside of your elbow.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects on a daily basis.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds on a regular basis. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Consider wearing a mask in certain situations (e.g., if you are sick and need to be around others, are caring for someone who has COVID-19, etc.).

You can access additional recommendations from the CDC by visiting https://bit.ly/3ylNrGZ. You can also access the latest COVID-19 data for our district, community and county by visiting https://bit.ly/3d93aws.
