Douglass second grade scholars went on a whale watch last week! From Captain John Boats:
Today, about 70 students from your school joined me on a 9am-1pm whale watch out of Plymouth Harbor on the boat “Tails of the Sea”.
I’d really love for it to be passed along to the leaders of the school that every single child was an absolute pleasure to have aboard today. It was a little chilly for them I’m sure, and we only saw one whale, but it was an amazing encounter that they seemed very appreciative of- and the students were inquisitive, well behaved, curious, and attentive. We got to enjoy looking at baleen specimens together, guess the whale bone types that I had aboard, and talk about the research that students have done on their own whale species projects. They handled our specimens with respect, waited turns to speak, and were very kind to one another. As an educator and program director myself, it was just a pleasure and you should know that your scholars have impressed us across the board. I really hope I’ll have the chance to join your next class for a trip next year!
We did get some really cute photos, as a whole group and in smaller groups with the specimens. I hope your chaperones will share some photos with us! Feel free to have a look at the Capt John Boats post from today, where I summarized the trip and left a few photos of the whale encounter itself.
Thank you for the privilege of spending time with your students today. It is such a gift to know that you are taking an active hand in developing wonderful children!
