Torn: Shredding the Fabric of Our Lies

Lent 2022

The season of Lent begins on March 2 with Ash Wednesday and the imposition of ashes as a reminder of our mortality and Christ’s gift of life everlasting. This year we are exploring “lies we tell ourselves,” and how the in-breaking of God into our lives exposes those lies, and reveals the truth of God’s love and care for us. Join us Wednesday evenings at 6:15 pm for Torn: Shredding the Fabric of Our Lies.

Social Concerns Announcements:

FLC is volunteering at the Washington County Recycling Center on Saturday, February 26th from 8:00a – noon. We are the designated volunteer group for this day so are looking for a minimum of 10 volunteers from 8a-10a and

10a – noon. This is a great opportunity to support our community along with a number of “FLC regulars” who work at the center each week! Volunteers will unload vehicles and deliver materials to stations – gloves are recommended. Youth under 12 should be accompanied by a parent. There is a sign-up sheet on the Welcome Center or you may contact Trudy Hutton (402-426-4358) or Lynette Jennings (402-278-0164) to be added to the list. Thank you FLC!

Have A Heart Count Numbers: 183.7 for the Week of February 6th and a total of 271.5 so far.

Our 10th Annual “HAVE A HEART FOR HUNGER” campaign started on February 1, and continue throughout the month in support of the Washington County Food Pantry. Here are the categories we are targeting for the FLC food ingathering each week throughout the month:

Week 3 Cans, Jars, and Containers Week

Week 4 Miscellaneous Toiletries Week (individual toothbrushes, bar soap, toilet tissue)

We will have a grocery cart and/or plastic bins available at a convenient location to collect these items, which will be delivered to W.C.F.P. and weighed after each weekend’s collection. Our goal for this collection is 600 pounds. Monetary gifts are also invited, which can be taken to the office. You will receive updates after each week’s collection, making it possible to track our progress toward this goal.

We will also be involving the community again this year with a special collection day at Family Fare on Saturday, February 12, 9:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. When you come that day during those hours you will be greeted by a friendly face or two who will hand you a flyer that notes the most urgent items needed by our Washington County Food Pantry. As you proceed with your shopping you will notice signs at the items on the flyer you have been handed to grab your attention. Then, when you get through the check-out counter, you will notice more eager faces with bodies ready to collect the items which you have purchased specifically for the W.C.F.P., and packing them for later delivery to the Food Pantry. You may also donate cash or checks there which will be gratefully received, since the Pantry is able to buy food at wholesale prices and can make your shopping dollars go further. Our goal for this collection is l,500 pounds.

Please note there is both a plastic and a wooden Receptacle for gifts to the WASHINGTON COUNTY FOOD PANTRY are available to receive your food donations at FLC at any time!
