A New Plaza and Trail In Memory of Joe Campos Torres
Facing injustice, recognizing racism, acknowledging wrongs --- that is how a city heals and moves forward to become a better place for everyone.

In memory of Joe Campos Torres, the City of Houston has announced the dedication of a still-under-construction site, as the future Joe Campos Torres Plaza, and the Joe Campos Torres Trail along Buffalo Bayou at the Austin Street Trailhead.
SAVE THE DATE: The Naming Ceremony will be held at the plaza site on Saturday, April 2, 2022.
Kid-Friendly COVID Vaccination at GRB
A MEGA COVID vaccination event for the whole family is taking place this Friday at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Walk-ins are welcome and there will be giveaways and holiday activities. 5,000 vaccines available!

Holiday Pet Pantry in Second Ward
CM Cisneros is partnering with the Houston Humane Society and Funeraria Del Angel Crespo to provide free pet food to those needing assistance. Pet food and goodie bags will be distributed in a drive-thru manner, on a first come, first served basis while supplies last. More info here.

Info Session for Houston-Area Artists and Artist Teams!
Artists and Art Teams are invited to apply to do a large-scale outdoor mural at the entrance of the Denver Harbor Multi-Service Center. Info about the application process is available online here. You can also ​attend an in-person info session on December 20th at Porras Prontito, where you can learn how to submit a proposal and ask your questions in real-time.

Solid Waste Department Holiday Schedule
Starting on Thursday, December 23rd, curbside recycling and yard waste services will be affected by the Christmas and New Year's holiday collection schedule. See the schedule here.

PLEASE NOTE: Thursday and Friday B-week residents will not receive yard waste and recycling collection services on December 23 and December 24. Those residents will receive recycling and yard waste collection on their next regularly scheduled collection day.
Citywide collections continue to be impacted by a shortage of drivers. The City is offering a $3,000 signing incentive pay for new drivers. How Should the City Invest the ARPA Money?
The City is conducting an important survey on how to allocate the approximately $400 million coming to the City through the American Rescue Plan. We need to hear from you on how best to prioritize the ARPA funding. The survey will remain open through January. How Does SHOTSPOTTER Work?
ShotSpotter is a gunfire detection system, where three or more sensors pick up the sound of a gunshot and triangulate its location. If it is gunfire, an alert is sent to HPD. Officers are then dispatched to the call location. FAQs here.
