Greetings, Community Members and Partners –
April is Community College Month. It is a time to celebrate the wonderful accomplishments of these institutions across the country. Lone Star College is a premier institution. Currently, LSC is the highest-enrolled community college in Texas and the second-highest enrolled in the country. The system has received several recognitions including being a top degree producer for students from underrepresented groups.

During this special month, I want to announce that Lone Star College-Houston North will be hosting its second in-person commencement on Saturday, May 13th at 3 p.m. This year, we are holding the event within Fallbrook Church’s sanctuary (12750 Walters Rd., Houston, Texas 77014).
We will continue our steady increase in graduates with a LSC-Houston North high of 250 college and 27 GED graduates. This year’s commencement has several highlights aligned with our overall college goals.
-
Just over 1/4 of our graduates will be in workforce fields. Workforce, along with dual credit, has been the greatest source of growth both in enrollment and graduates over the past three years.
-
We will graduate 68 students from Victory Early College High School with both the associate degree and high school diploma through dual credit. Dr. Cormier, Principal of Victory Early College High School, will join me on stage to celebrate this award-winning high school.
-
For the first time, Benjamin O. Davis will have dual credit students (5) graduating with an associate degree and high diploma. Their Principal, Dr. Watkins, will also join me on stage to commemorate this occasion.

Part of LSC-Houston North’s purpose is to address completion gaps in our underrepresented communities. Therefore, one measure we watch carefully is how our enrollment and graduate demographics compare.
Since the start of LSC-Houston North, our enrollment has been approximately 80% Black or Hispanic (25% & 55% respectively). When comparing to graduates, these two underrepresented groups account for 90% of graduates with 26% being Black and 64% being Hispanic. Hispanic females have led all demographic groups at 36%.
Our non-traditional population has over-performed with nearly 30% of graduates being 25 years of age and older in comparison to only accounting for 25% of the overall enrollment.
Commencement represents the primary purpose of our institution, and specifically, all of our partnerships. Your support has helped our students reach this point. Therefore, please join me in congratulating them on this wonderful milestone in their educational journey.

Job & Networking Fair Success!
Thanks to all for spreading the word out about our Victory Job and Networking Fair. Yesterday was a busy day. We had great interaction between students and employers at our fair.
Aside from practicing their communication and networking skills, students were even applying for "Better Jobs". We also had the Food Distribution Drive and later that afternoon, the Open House. We are truly a "One Stop Shop" for education, food and resources, and Better Jobs!

Our Panther Pact Emergency Fund is a safety net for our students, with 100% of the proceeds helping them directly.
We are the most diverse Lone Star College institution and our locations exist in the lowest-income sections of our system’s service area. However, for the past three years, our students have continually had some of the highest completion rates within the system.
We invested a lot of time into developing partnerships so we can help students in a cost-efficient manner. We've helped students remove barriers such as food insecurity, clothing and toiletry needs, textbook costs, as well as a technology divide.
Your contribution will directly support a student in continuing their legacy.

Lone Star College has over 200+ degree programs with several offered at LSC-Houston North locations (Fairbanks, Fallbrook, Greenspoint, Victory). |
Lone Star College is one of the most affordable options in the area. Students pursuing baccalaureate degrees can earn two years of credit at a cost that is less than one semester at many local universities.
