June 3, 2022

Dear Residents -

As we enter June, there is so much to look forward to as we eagerly await the end of the school year and the official start of summer. For many of our children, that means looking forward to summer camp. Unfortunately, our Department of Parks and Recreation is still in need of summer help to run its camp programs. If you or anyone you know is interested, please see the flyer below for more details.

June is also Pride Month, a month dedicated to the uplifting of LGBTQ voices, a celebration of LGBTQ culture, and support of LGBTQ rights. If you are looking to celebrate Pride Month locally, you are in luck. The Rockland County Pride Center will be hosting a family-friendly event on June 12th in Nyack.

And in more exciting June news, after several months of being closed, Camp Shanks will reopen tomorrow, June 4, 2022, and be open every weekend until August 28, 2022. The hours of operation are 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Please note that it will be closed July 2nd and 3rd, in observance of Independence Day. Thanks to Commander John Gray and all of the veteran volunteers for helping us with this important mission.

And, another time-honored June event is back! The Greek Festival, sponsored by the Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, will be featuring homemade food, pastries, live music, dancing, games and more. Trust me, a good time will be had by all.

Lastly, please join me in wishing Katy Sanchez, my friend and an Orangetown Superstar, the best of luck in her events at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Orlando, Florida. Katy is a proud member of Team NY and will be one of 5,500 athletes participating this weekend. No matter what happens, Katy, you are already a champion to all of us in Orangetown.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Regards,

If you see something, say something

Across the country, in our communities, we share everyday moments with our neighbors, family, coworkers, and friends. We go to work or school, the grocery store, or the gas station.

It's easy to overlook these routine moments, but as you’re going about your day, if you see something that doesn't seem quite right, say something.

By being alert and reporting suspicious activity to your local law enforcement, you can protect your family, neighbors, and community.
