DPS Climate Action Update

Winter 2023🌎

Solar Canopy Ribbon Cutting at Northeast Early College

DPS and the City of Denver partnered to install a 309 kW solar garden at Northeast Early College! The solar garden will provide multiple benefits to the community including: producing clean energy, donating bill credits to DPS families who need relief on their energy bills, and providing shade.

This solar garden is fully funded by Denver's Climate Protection Fund and supports their renewable energy goals while also addressing DPS’ environmental justice goals.

Bring Joy with Sustainable Holidays

There are many ways to incorporate sustainability into your holidays when you live in Denver:

  • Recycle broken holiday lights for FREE in December at either of TWO designated drop-off locations. Learn more
  • Turn your holiday tree into mulch for FREE in January by taking it to one of several designated drop-off locations throughout the city. Learn more about Treecycle
  • Use the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program to properly dispose of batteries, paints, glues, and more. Learn more

There are also ways to green your holidays no matter where you live:

  • Gift experiences rather than material gifts. A Sustainability Team member's family once purchased a family pass to the zoo, museums, and botanic gardens to share. It was great to share the cost and spur the family into getting out regularly.
  • Spend quality time with loved ones while volunteering to support a cause.
  • Get creative with your wrapping. Traditional wrapping paper is not recyclable, but gift bags and fabric can be reused over and over.
