Coaches come through in clutch to bring joy to MUSD families

At the January 11 meeting, the Milpitas Unified School District Board of Education and District Leadership honored Milpitas High School Coaches Kelly King, Adam Perez, Mike Matthews, Reynard Elzey, Pono Aiona, Victor Parrette, Alfredo Martinez, Ralph Meredith, Victor Rodriguez, Trevor Dimich and Vito Cangemi for bringing joy to so many needy MUSD families by providing holiday gifts to their children.
Coach King coordinated with the other coaches to provide toys to families who were in need of some support this holiday season.
Coach King reached out to all MUSD elementary schools. At Weller Elementary School , with their help and generosity, 50 students received two or more toys each. Their parents were able to come by the school, select gifts, and bring them home to surprise their kids.

Rancho 7th grade girls basketball team honored for league championship season

The Board of Education and District Leadership honored the Rancho Milpitas Middle School Seventh Grade Girls Basketball for being exemplary student-athletes and completing a championship season.
Those honored were Coach Jim Burns and players Addison Tuet, Angelina Garcia, Anika Yalavarthi, Athena Cruz, Brennalyn David, Cayla Funches, Inaaya Dominguez, Karyna Zankovych, Sumaya Mohamud, Sydney Yu, Alankrita Nakka, Parnika Sadhu, and Shree Garg.

MUSD Team shares update on student outcomes for ELPAC and EL Master Plan

The English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC) is comprised of the Initial, Summative, and Alternate ELPAC assessment. The ELPAC is the required state test for English language proficiency (ELP) that must be given to students whose primary language is a language other than English. State and federal law require that local educational agencies administer a state test of ELP to eligible students in kindergarten through grade twelve.
In her presentation, Sugimura shared an update on MUSD student outcomes based on initial and summative assessment data. The presentation also included an overview of the MUSD EL Master Plan, which is designed to provide a clear statement of policies related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of English learner programs and services.

Superintendent Cheryl Jordan shared her Moving Forward Together: MUSD COVID-19 Update 2021-22 with the Board and community at the Jan. 11 meeting, touching on the impact of the COVID Omicron variants on local schools, students and staff members, along with vaccination and infection rates.
