St. Brendan Weekly Bulletin
December 15, 2021
|
|
Dear St. Brendan Families,
|
As we lit our rose-colored candle this week, we remember that our time of waiting is almost over. We rejoice with anticipation of the coming of the Lord! I hope your Advent season has been overflowing with joy and I wish you all a Merry Christmas.
Thank you for attending our Christmas Program last week. It was a beautiful evening and the children did a wonderful job! A big thank you to all of our teachers and staff who worked to make that such a success. You can watch the recording of the concert here. The password is 1Jq$.bDX. Professional photos will also be shared soon.
Last week we had our much anticipated Christmas Store. We are thankful to the many volunteers and especially our chair, Camarin Wanamaker, for putting together such a wonderful Christmas store this year. Proceeds from this event will help to support charities including the Giving Tree. Thank you for your support.
Report cards will be sent home Friday. Please keep the report card envelope and return it to school following the break. There is a place for parents to sign the envelope before it is returned.
This is our last Weekly Bulletin of 2021. I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year! Have a wonderful Christmas Break!
Blessings,
Catherine Shumate
Reminder that Extended Care closes at 4:00 PM tomorrow and that Friday is a 12:45 dismissal and there is no PM Extended Care .

Christmas. A few years ago, one of the kids in the first grade class said to me, “Christmas. It’s like Christ and mass.” I told him yes, that’s exactly what it means! It is the day where we celebrate Christ. It is his feast day. So we have the mass for Christ on his birthday! The look on his face was: mind=blown!
As I laughed with him at making that wonderful connection I thought about the simplicity of kids and how God asks us to have the faith of a child. So, let us all remember the simple reason we are singing carols and buying presents and decorating. Thank you God, for sending Jesus to live among us, to teach us, and to lead us to eternal life. Merry (almost) Christmas everyone!
If you are looking for a way to help your kids pray through the Christmas season, Hallow has a new addition within the app: Hallow Kids! Some of the new features just for kids are: Introduction to Prayer Series with separate sessions for little kids, bigger kids, and teens,
Kids’ Bedtime Stories from Mario Lopez and Jen Fulwiler, a fun Guess that Saint Daily Challenge, and a beautiful original Hallow Story called Lost & Found about a little lost sheep named Hallie.

The students have really enjoyed shopping at the Christmas Store, and the 8th graders did a fantastic job in their leadership role helping the students shop. We had set a goal to beat last year’s Giving Tree donations of $1400 and we’ve done it! This generous community raised a little over $1800 for the Giving Tree this year! AMAZING! Thank you all!
Christmas Store Payments: the payments for the Christmas Store and any Giving Tree donations will be charged through your FACTS account. The charge will show up as "Miscellaneous."

St. Vincent de Paul - New Record!
|
|
The 6th Grade Class is proud to announce that the St. Vincent de Paul Food Drive was a huge success this year. Thanks to the generosity of our incredible St. Brendan parents and students, we were able to raise $1,527; this is officially the most raised in a single year for the food drive! We couldn’t be more thrilled that, collectively, our dollars and cents are going to provide food for deserving families this Christmas. Because we were able to exceed our initial goal, additional gift cards were also purchased that will go to help even more families soon. Your kindness and generosity have truly made a difference in a year that has been filled with unprecedented challenges and hardships for so many across the country, and your support will ensure that we will spread some holiday warmth and kindness to incredibly deserving families in the Bothell community.
Thank you again,
Mr. Langston and the 6th Grade Class

Procurement, Procurement, Procurement, and more Procurement
We hope you are all looking forward to our Annual School Auction this year April 30, 2022
- Family Procurement Deadline is in February
EVERY Family (K-8th) is required to make a $175 donation in goods or services to the Annual School Auction.*
This donation can be a tangible, physical item that has been purchased. It can be gift certificates for items or services, or it can be a service that you, the family, provide. You are not limited to $175! Many families choose to donate either a single item or multiple items totaling well over $175, but $175 is the minimum. We also ask you to refrain from donating any clothing unless it is sports memorabilia or previously approved by an Auction Chair.
*Families who selected to Buy Out of the Parent Club fundraising do not need to procure an item for the auction.

Have you had your donation to St. Brendan School Matched?
Matching Gifts
Many corporations will match philanthropic donations made by their employees. This is a great way to maximize your gift. You could possibly double your gift with a corporate match. Simply send us the appropriate paperwork from your employer’s human resources or personnel department, and your gift to St. Brendan School will be matched according to your company's guidelines. Many companies use an online portal to match your giving, so please check with your employer on how to get started.
Match Volunteer Hours
Some companies will match your volunteer hours with a donation to the school. For instance, Microsoft matches $25 per hour for each hour that you volunteer with St. Brendan School!
Other companies like Boeing, Expedia and Starbucks will also match volunteer hours. Matching volunteer hours is no cost to you and the school greatly benefits! Please check with your employer to see if they participate in matching volunteer hours.
