At AAP-CA, we have long recognized that gun violence is a public health crisis, and our work in advocating for gun safety laws and research funding at the state and federal levels reflects our commitment to the health of all children. Earlier this month, we learned that gun violence has overtaken motor vehicle crashes as the leading cause of death of children and adolescents in the US as of 2020. Mass shootings like Uvalde shake us, an average of 22 children and teens are injured or killed by guns every day.
