January 15th Sermon: "We Do or We Die!"

DO

or

DIE

Let's DO God's call for Mason

and have the ride

of our lives!

WHY SUCH CHANGE?

Because Mason United Methodist Church will close in 4 and a half years if we continue on as we have been. Click below to see the financial reality that Jane Hallstrom prepared for the Dreaming Team.

Yes, this is alarming, but with God, all things are possible—and this I believe. You have a powerful team working on resurrecting Mason, building something new, and it's something to be very, very excited about!

HOW WE WORSHIP................

A LOVE OFFERING for

MAUA METHODIST HOSPITAL in KENYA

will be collected this Sunday

Pastor Susan is going to Kenya on a mission trip with the

Volunteers In Mission of the United Methodist Church. The team has reached its goal of $100,000. But—new needs in the hospital have come to our attention. Due to extreme drought, Kenyans are suffering from a massively depleted food supply. Many people are very, very hungry, even starving. In addition to the resources UMVIM provide on a typical trip, nutrition supplements are in high demand, as families bring their malnourished children to the hospital. Any love offering you provide will go directly to the hospital to care for the hungry.

If you would like to support the people of Maua, you can send a check to:

FUMCPDX

 c/o Paul and Kathleen Cosgrove

6211 Buena Vista Drive

Vancouver, WA 98661

Please make your check out to FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF PORTLAND.

THE HOSPITAL NEEDS THE FOLLOWING ITEMS.

ASK YOUR DOCTOR TO DONATE:

  • Single bed sheets – flat and fitted- white only (3’x6’). Wash if possible, then they can go as “used”.
  • Scrubs for patients (S, M, L in light blue)
  • Scrubs for theater staff – (M, L in dark blue or turquois–TOP PRIORITY)
  • * Fetal scopes
  •  Light weight blankets, rubber pads for incubators mattresses
  • * Stethoscopes
  • Surgical Gloves (size 7-7.5)
  •  *Implant removal forceps
  • BP machines (digital)

How to send your support:

CHECKS CAN BE MADE OUT TO:

First United Methodist Church of Portland

A NEW WORSHIP SERIES ON SERVING OUR NEIGHBORS

We are excited to share that for the next 5 Sundays, we will be having guest speakers who will share stories of their work with the underserved. Mason UMC does not have to begin any outreach project from scratch. There are so many ways we can be involved in Christ's call to serve, just by supporting and connecting the good work that is already being done by other Tacoma non-profits.

BLESSING BAGS FOR UNHOUSED PEOPLE

This is an Outreach Ministry that we can all participate in.

Good news: Lynn Stetson and Gail Simpson will be sharing the coordinator role to get this ministry going. We will put out a bin or box so we can collect the following supplies for our houseless and impoverished neighbors:

socks, protein bars, tissues, hand sanitizer, bottled water, feminine hygiene products, dog food, gallon zip lock bags, deodorant, first aid supplies, hand/foot warmers, and any other essentials that people might need.

When we have our supplies, we will regularly hold an assembly line to fill the bags for all of us to take and keep in our cars. STAY TUNED!

HOW WE HAVE FUN........

RETIREES FELLOWSHIP TIME

monthly on the first Thursday at 10:30am

Next meeting:

Thursday, February 2nd at 10:30am

Early in the new year, I hope we can begin scheduling monthly gatherings of retirees for fellowship and the reinforcement of our connections in and with Mason Church. Covid has effected our fellowship greatly, and it's time to re-connect again. If you are interested in helping to put together a program that will clearly define our mission and purpose and assist in getting the fellowship into operation, please call me or email me.

Sincerely,

Doug Nelson

Mason UWF is Alive and Well in 2023!

United Women of Faith met Tuesday, January 10th for fellowship and prayer, and are excited about doing local missions for women, youth, and children. You may not be able to attend the meetings, but if you have talents and want to share them with the group, we would be so excited to be a part of that.

All who identify as women are welcome, no matter your faith, to join us for fellowship at our next meeting on February 7th, at 11:00am. Contact Carol Sprague at 719-406-1126 for any questions, or to voice your preference for meeting days.

Want to have an event or meeting at the church? We would love to host you and/or your group! As traffic increases, please make sure you contact the church office, so we can avoid double-booking eventsCalendars are updated as frequently as possible, but do not always reflect the most current bookings.

Email admin@masonchurch.org, call 253-759-3539, or stop by the office Tuesday-Friday between 9:00am - 2:00pm.

Just another way to serve God—Hospitality.

Hospitality is a recurring theme in Scripture, and we are called to gather, break bread, and build relationships. If you are willing to assist in the planning and implementation of Sunday Fellowship, contact Sandy Roszman, as she is the coordinator of this ministry.

HOW WE LEAD................

LET'S MAKE IT EVEN EASIER

FOR YOU TO GIVE

We are now capable of accepting your offering with your debit

or credit card. Just ask Brian Nelson or Pastor Susan, or contact the church office. We want to make life easy for you, and simplifying the process of contributing to our church family is one way to do so.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

2022 Giving Statements will be mailed out soon, and should be arriving some time next week.   If you notice inaccuracies in your statement, please contact the church office.

HOW WE PRAY................

PRAYER IS IMPORTANT TO US

BECAUSE WE ARE A FAITH FAMILY.

Families share what's happening in our lives, and since we are a church family, we too can share our joys and concerns with one another.

Joys:

We celebrate Kathy Sprick, whose birthday was last week.

Joyce and George Schuetz share their joy that their grandson has started horse riding therapy and Special Olympics training.

Concerns:

Please pray for Larry Stetson, who is still in the hospital in Odessa, WA. He received a transfusion and is doing much better, but will still be in rehab for two more weeks before he can return home.

Tina Queree asks for prayers for her heart daughter, Tay, whose brother was shot and has been hospitalized.

The Schuetz family lifts up Kelly, a neighbor, who fell while visiting Colorado. With multiple injuries, she must stay in Colorado until she recovers.

Please hold Nick R. in your prayers, as he has received a terminal cancer diagnosis.

Julie Roberts and Mary Ellen Forsberg ask for your prayers as they move from their family home to an adult family home this week.

Since mid-December, Maura Cullen has been in Tacoma General hospital, in the Cardiac Care unit. Please pray for her recovery, and please also contact her! She always has her phone by her side and would love company.

Krista Berry lifts up all children, parents, and teachers of behavior-challenged children. May solutions and support become clear.

We continue to pray for courage and action to resolve the economic inequality in our community that is the root of problems such as poverty, theft, and limited access to mental healthcare.

OTHER STUFF................

PASTOR'S OFFICE HOURS set aside for you.

 Sunday from 11:00 - 1:00

 Tuesday from 10:00 - 12:00

Thursday from 4:30 - 6:30

The church office will still be operating regular hours:

Tuesday - Friday from 9:00am - 2:00pm.
