Julia L Gutiérrez-Rivera is a second generation practitioner of Afro-Puerto Rican bomba and plena, and has continued her bloodline’s legacy through a career supporting cultural arts on stage, in the classroom, and from behind the scenes with numerous agencies across the Northeast including The Hostos Center for Arts and Culture, Pregones/PRTT, MAPP International Productions, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, and the National Council for the Traditional Arts. She is a NYFA Artist Fellow, a close advisor to Los Pleneros de la 21, and serves on the board of Cultura Plenera, and the Center for Traditional Music and Dance. |
