COVID UPDATE

Dear families,

The CDC has recently reclassified Ulster County as an area of high transmission for COVID-19. The 7-day positivity rate for Ulster County is 11.1%, with a 7-day average of 46 cases per 100K. As a result of this designation, residents have been asked to consider wearing a mask indoors, in public settings and other common or shared spaces where individuals may interact.

The MLWS COVID-19 Health and Safety Taskforce reconvened this week to discuss the current rise in community transmission, review the prevalence of COVID within our school, and revisit our guidance.

Please see below an overview of cases/exposures at Mountain Laurel, recorded in May and April, 2022:

While we are not reinstating a mask mandate, we are aligning with the CDC, NYS and Ulster County Department of Health in recommending our students and staff wear a well fitting, high-quality mask indoors at school with immediate effect.  Masks do not need to be worn outdoors.

Masks are recommended for the following:

  • Inside all school buildings
  • for all indoor school events, including: Music Share, Class Plays, Field Trips etc
  • to be worn by parent drivers/parent passengers when carpooling
  • any transportation where class cohorts are mixing, such as on buses
  • day 6-10 for recovered individuals returning from isolation
  • for 10 days following a positive exposure
  • when engaging in a high risk activity, such as indoor singing or mixing class cohorts - students need to either wear a mask or be spaced 6 ft apart.
  • for parents/visitors visiting the school & for indoor gatherings (no indoor group meetings during school hours)

No masks:

  • outdoors
  • for outdoor gathering - cohorts can mix without masks or distancing

Other:

  • no indoor gatherings with food or drink (outdoors is ok)

Mitigation measures such as frequent hand washing, air filtration, ventilation and distancing will be reinforced.

Testing: This weeks testing recorded one positive case and the class was duly informed. We will continue testing once per week (first day of each week) until we have 2 weeks of 0 positive cases.

***After the Memorial Day Weekend we require two tests:

On Tuesday, 31st May & Thursday, 2nd June***

Please keep your child home when they are sick, and test them if they are experiencing possible COVID-19 symptoms.

If you have any questions, please Covid Confidential
