Know Your Como: Furry Friends - Duchess and Shiloh

By Sonjie Johnson

“I Don’t Want a Dog!”

That’s what the Halker’s daughter (then 6) said when the family went to Second Chance Animal Rescue to adopt a puppy for their son. All that changed when the foster mom put Duchess, a golden ball of fur, in their daughter’s lap. The Halkers went home with two dogs – Duchess and Shiloh.

Thank You From Como Park Lutheran

On Sunday, March 26th, Como Park Lutheran Church (CPLC) hosted our third Food Drive for the March FoodShare Campaign benefiting Keystone Community Services.

During this event, CPLC members and the Como Park community collected 2,000 pounds of food, $1,800 in donations, and we received $2,155 in envelope gifts for hunger ministries bringing the total dollar amount to $3,955 toward the FoodShare Campaign. The event also showcased the Como Community Seed Library, whom we will be collaborating with on a “Grow a Row” project that will build community through gardening and give others access to nutritious fruits and vegetables.

All of the money raised will allow Keystone Community Services to receive additional corporate dollars via the MN FoodShare Food Fund to help stock Keystone’s food shelves. Our friends at Keystone are truly grateful.

Thank you, friends, neighbors, and volunteers, for your generosity in making this our largest food collection since March of 2021. And, another special thank you to Thrivent Financial Services for helping with refreshments and promotional expenses.

With sincere gratitude - Sue Brogger of Como Park Lutheran

Recycling Smart: Keep Toys and Large Plastic Items Out of Your Recycling Cart

For unwanted but usable items, offer them to your friends, family, and neighbors. Here are some ideas for getting rid of usable items:

For unusable items, place them in your garbage. If they are too large, contact your garbage hauler about picking them up as a bulky item or take them to a facility that accepts trash.

Recycle Smart and do your part by purchasing high-quality items or- better yet- buy them used! If they’re still in good shape when your family is done with them, donate, sell, or give them away.

For more information visit: Recycle Smart
