Apply Now for a Culturally Responsive Education in the Classroom Residency in Your School or District
Apply now to bring the Culturally Responsive Education (CRE) in the Classroom Residency to your school or district. This is a unique and intensive professional development experience in which your team will receive coaching, facilitation and technical assistance from Dr. Adeyemi Stembridge, author of "Culturally Responsive Education in the Classroom" and his longtime colleague and CRE Coach, Vickie Onodera.
Residencies are designed based on the need of the educators and their students, and will include 4-6 days of direct technical assistance as well as a combination of in-person and virtual sessions and coaching. The model and schedule will be determined once your team is selected and approved. We anticipate selecting up to 16 schools or districts for this one of a kind professional development training.
District/School applicants must be able to agree to the following:
1) Because it is imperative that CRE be understood and supported by those in administrative and instructional leadership, all applications must have an administrator and an instructional coach/mentor or other instructional leader on the team who is committed to joining all sessions and residency opportunities.
2) Applicants must commit to covering the cost of release time, substitute teachers, and/or stipends for team members as well as copies of "Culturally Responsive Education in the Classroom". TPEP iGrant 664 funds and Title II Part A funds may be used to cover these expenses, but the applicant will be responsible for applying for these funds directly with OSPI. CSTP will cover all expenses related to time and travel for Dr. Adeyemi Stembridge and Vickie Onodera to meet with your educators.

"Rethinking What I've Always Done" by Mark Gardner
"Now, as I have grown to see how narrow a view of the world my district’s high school English reading lists represent, I can see why it is a problem that the only approved major work of literature in the 9th grade curriculum with a female narrator, let alone a female author, still centers much of its story on the experiences of boys and men."

Need a wildlife fix? Brooks Falls in Alaska's Katmai National Park has a great live camera view of brown bears catching salmon as they swim upstream to spawn. During popular meal times you will see a dozen or more bears around the falls, tons of jumping salmon and plenty of seagulls to clean-up the leftovers.
