Welcome back PH Community,

Happy new year! We are hopeful that over the break you were able to recharge, relax and enjoy time with your families. Let’s bring the positive energy of a new year and new possibilities to everything we do. Thank you for your continued support and appreciation of our school. Also, thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we navigate the unpredictable nature of school delays/ closings surrounding the snow this year!

IB Inquiry Week of January 3rd

Language Portraits

Recently, several of our multilingual students participated in language portrait workshops. Creating a language portrait gives students an opportunity to reflect on the connection between their different languages and their identity.

Within the Peter Hobart community, we have an abundance of learners whose daily life includes multiple languages. Our students identified over 20 different home languages that are part of our students’ daily lives.

The brilliance of these learners, especially as they traverse different languages throughout their day, is inspiring!

District emails in Somali or Spanish

Want to receive District emails and phone recordings in Spanish or Somali?

Families can now receive district-level communications (emails and phone recordings) in a preferred language such as Spanish or Somali. Some families currently receive messages in Spanish or Somali and may wish to receive information in English.

If you wish to update your language preferences, please contact your school and ask that the preferred guardian language be updated in our student information system (PowerSchool). This will ensure you receive district-level communications such as closures and emergencies in your preferred messages.

Whenever possible, we will do our best to ensure SLP phone recordings go out in your preferred language.

Share the Mic Podcast

Share the Mic Podcast with Suwaydah Aden, Erin Enright, and Ibtisam Ahmed whose climate action project inspired the Idle Free SLP Campaign

Seventh Graders Suwaydah Aden, Erin Enright, and Ibtisam Ahmed coined the term "Idle-Free SLP" during their Climate Action presentation last spring during science class. Their slogan and presentation have since served as inspiration for a new initiative in St. Louis Park to reduce carbon emissions in parking lots all across St. Louis Park. Listen to episodes 1-3 on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

High Rates of Illness at School

Masks are Highly Encouraged. Stay Home When Sick and Slow the Spread of Illness

We are seeing unusually high rates of illness in multiple SLP schools, in particular, influenza (flu) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). These viruses can be easily spread through close contact when people cough, sneeze, and talk.

Please help partner with us in an effort to prevent the spread of illness by following our illness guidelines:

Situations when your child should stay home:

  • Fever of 100 degrees or more. The student should stay home for 24 hours after their temperature returns to normal without the use of fever reducing medication.
  • Vomiting or diarrhea. The student is to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
  • Any uncontrolled cough.
  • Rashes with unknown causes. Check with your family physician/clinic before your student returns to school.
  • If feeling ill/unwell and the student is unable to fully participate in school activities.

If your child displays symptoms of influenza or RSV, you can reach out to your child’s health care provider to see if testing for these illnesses is recommended. For information about influenza and RSV please refer to the Parent Fact Sheets from Hennepin County

Thank you for helping to prevent the spread of illness!

Familias Latinas High School SLP Facebook Page
