PALOS PARK WEEKLY | JUNE 3, 2022
Recreation Department Parking Lot Closed
The Recreation Department Parking lot, Memorial Drive, will be closed for several days next week, the week of June 6, 2022, when the lot is resurfaced.

The Village is excited to announce that we've been designated by the EPA as an EPA Green Power Community (GPC). GPCs are towns, villages, cities, counties, or tribal governments in which the local government, businesses, and residents collectively use green power in amounts that meet or exceed EPA's Green Power Community usage requirements.

Metra to sell $100 flat-rate monthly pass

Metra will start offering a $100 flat-rate “Super Saver” monthly pass valid for unlimited travel throughout the Chicago area. The new pass will be offered for a three-month pilot period starting in July.

For the price of a tank of gas, or a trip to a baseball game, you can travel all over the Chicago area on Metra for a month,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Jim Derwinski. “High gas prices already make Metra an affordable option versus driving, but this new monthly ‘Super Saver’ pass makes the choice even clearer.”

Full fare “Super Saver” passes will cost $100, while a reduced fare pass for eligible seniors, K-12 students and children will cost $70. Buying the new pass during the pilot program will be the same process as buying the regular Monthly Pass via the Ventra app and from ticket agents, with only a different price.

Summer Break Is Near

Please keep these reminders from the Palos Park Police Department in mind when you're driving and traveling throughout the Village:
  • Pay attention when you are behind the wheel and scan the area around you. Look for kids playing near the street and slow down. This is an exciting time for kids and they may forget safety rules. Children are often unpredictable and unaware of the dangers around them.
  • Be aware of and obey posted speed limits.
  • Keep in mind that school may be out, but children may still be present in school zones for other activities, such as play grounds, etc.
  • Watch for clues. A ball or bicycle nearby may mean children are close by. Pay attention and always expect the unexpected.
  • Always watch for children when backing up. Remember children are smaller and much harder to see when walking around parked vehicles.
  • PLEASE remember and obey all laws regarding texting and the use of cellular devices while driving.

TIPS FOR PARENTS
  • Parents and caregivers are responsible for keeping children safe. Make sure they wear safety equipment during activities such as biking, skateboarding, etc. Teach them to always stop and look before crossing a street. Remind them to walk, not run, across the street.
  • Do not allow children to play unsupervised around swimming pools, ponds or other bodies of water.
Cook County Transit Plan

As part of their Transit Plan process, the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways
is doing a general public survey to help understand investment priorities. The purpose of the survey is to create a transit plan that focuses on equitable investments, boosting ridership and increasing seamless transit operations throughout the region. Follow the link below to take part in the survey.
