Top Tier College Event Connects Students with Leading Colleges
On Sunday, October 1st, EMERGE hosted its first in-person Top Tier College Experience since 2019. This exceptional gathering was a resounding success, connecting more than 250 EMERGE seniors and their families with over 30 esteemed college partners from across the nation. Our program team facilitated a comprehensive roundtable discussion, offering our staff a valuable opportunity to engage directly with college representatives. This dialogue reinforced our unwavering commitment to providing top-tier advising in an ever-evolving educational environment. The event also featured a college fair where students and families gained in-depth knowledge about top-tier colleges directly from admissions representatives. It was inspiring to see our EMERGE seniors actively interacting with these professionals during breakout sessions, gaining clarity and confidence as they approach their college application process.

EMERGE welcomes New VPs in Key Leadership Roles
This fall, we said goodbye to EMERGE Vice President of Programs Whitney Gouché as she departed from her role after eight remarkable years. Whitney has been a beacon of leadership, guiding us with her vision and commitment. Her contributions have left an indelible mark on our organization, shaping our successes and inspiring our community. As Whitney embarks on her next chapter, we extend our deepest appreciation for her enduring legacy and the profound impact she has made at EMERGE.
Joining us as the Vice President of Programs is Tarah Burris. Tarah comes to us with over 20 years of experience in education, most recently serving as Sr. Vice President of Partnerships, Persistence, and Completion at IDEA Public Schools. Her deep understanding of the college access landscape and her innovative approach to programming will help propel EMERGE into our next phase of growth.
We are also delighted to introduce Maurisa Lenz as our new Vice President of People and Culture. Maurisa's extensive background in talent management and organizational development, honed at the Greater Houston Partnership, positions her ideally to strengthen our team and support EMERGE's evolving needs. Her expertise in shaping positive workplace environments and driving strategic HR initiatives will be invaluable as we continue to grow and impact more lives.
The addition of Tarah and Maurisa to our leadership team will undoubtedly enhance our efforts to empower students and expand our reach in the communities we serve. We look forward to the innovative ideas they bring to EMERGE.

EMERGE Wins National Competition for Combating Summer Melt
We're honored to share that EMERGE's groundbreaking SQUADS program won the inaugural TxCAN Pitch Competition at the National College Attainment Network (NCAN)'s annual conference.
SQUADS fosters a sense of belonging on campus by connecting our recent high school graduates with both peers and experienced upper-level students attending the same college.
SQUADS helps to address the phenomenon known as "summer melt," where some students, despite being accepted into college, do not attend. By ensuring smoother transitions for first-year students and connecting them to peers attending the same schools, we hope to combat this challenge.
Kudos to Gary Tashima, our Managing Director of Alumni and College Success, and the entire College Success team. Thanks to TxCAN/UP Partnership, the Greater Texas Foundation, and the Texas Impact Network for awarding us $5,000 to support SQUADS.
