Care for Your Kidneys
Winter is the season of the kidneys, the most deeply set of our internal organs. Like winter the kidneys are tough and resilient, but they still must be cared for through diet and lifestyle. Rest in the winter allows us to strengthen the kidneys for the life energy our bodies need in the active spring and summer months.

It is important to eat and drink to benefit the kidneys and blood during the winter. The kidneys are miraculous filters of the blood and the cleaner that filter is, the better it functions to route healthy blood and carry nutrients to build and repair while carrying away waste from the organs.

90% of your blood is water, so drink up to help your blood move better and enable the kidneys to function at an optimal level. And for each serving of alcohol or caffeinated beverage you intake, add another glass of water.

Foods that are beneficial to the kidneys are blood builders and red in color for blood and black for the color of the kidneys and salty to optimize water retention.

Prostate Health and Happiness
The prostrate is an organ unique to males. As men age, they often experience health issues with this essential organ.

The prostate and surrounding sex organs are related to the kidney system. Emotional issues such as stress, anxiety and fear, and lifestyle choices such as lack of sleep, overwork, and an inflammatory diet all lead to stagnation, creating heat in the prostate and blocking flow in the urinary system.

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland. Symptoms of prostatitis may include frequent urination, pain and burning during urination, fever and chills, or erectile dysfunction. Prostatitis is usually diagnosed from your symptoms and checking your urine and semen for signs of infection.

Acupuncture and traditional herbs eliminate the heat, move the stagnation, and dry the dampness while treating related issues such as skin conditions, digestive and elimination issues, anxiety, and performance problems.

Kai Kit Wan is a highly effective formula prescribed for prostate issues to reduce swelling, inflammation, and discomfort.

The Grasping of Qi
As we enter the dark, deep hours of winter, we turn to rest as a way of being. There are seasons for activity and those in which we slow down and turn inward. Winter is the time of rest for all things. When the cold arrives, all living things begin to contract. In winter, the kidneys consolidate, and move inward to recuperate, rest, and heal.

In this third article in a series of five on the efficacy of Chinese medicine in treating emotional disharmony, we will discuss winter, fear, and the ruling organ of this season and emotion, the kidneys.
Client Testimonial
I initially started getting acupuncture treatments out of curiosity. Then, in 2015, I sought out Andrea to help me with fertility and growing a healthy baby. She also provided relaxing prenatal massage. Recently, I came to her for help getting anxiety under control.

In the last few months, I have had six treatments for anxiety and panic attacks. Andrea has addressed liver and kidney Qi flow and I have experienced great relief. My most recent treatment was almost euphoric. I felt so good relaxing in the treatment room, and the next day I felt better than I have in months! I remember it so clearly because it was New Year’s Day and I was overjoyed to start the year feeling THAT good. I wanted to freeze time to stay in these feelings of peace, contentment, and health, and relaxation.

Andrea’s office is easy to get to, just a short drive from the beach, very accessible, quiet, and easy parking. The office is clean, welcoming, and well designed. Her rate is very reasonable. I paid out of pocket - worth it - but learned later that my insurance might cover part of the costs! I have already recommended her practice to others that I know and would suggest anyone considering acupuncture to start with Andrea!

Good Times and Gratitude

What an amazing Christmas holiday I had in Southern California visiting my big brother and his family. I had a wonderful time with my two silly nephews (photographic proof above), my dear sister-in-law, and my brother.

I am so grateful to live and work in beautiful Florida and yet be able to take time off on the other side of the U.S. The California coast and mountains are some of the most beautiful spots in this country.

I hope that all of you enjoyed your holidays whether you stayed close to home or traveled across the country.
Love Without Fear
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.
