Farewell and thank you to Lexi Barnhill

After serving for the past three years as director of programs at Chanco on the James, Lexi Barnhill will be leaving us in the coming months to begin a new chapter in her life. Arriving in March of 2020, directly before the world shut down, Lexi has served Chanco diligently through the challenges of a global pandemic. Her tireless hiring efforts during a national staffing shortage ensured that Camp Chanco had enough counselors to run a safe program and her warm personality offered hospitality to our many retreat guests. Lexi became a member of one of the most closely knit groups on earth - the Chanco staff. She shares, "I am extremely grateful for my time at Chanco- for the lessons I've learned, the amazing experiences I have had, but most importantly the people I have come to love in my time here. Thank you to everyone who made me feel welcomed and a part of the Chanco family, I leave here knowing I take the love of the Chanco family with me where ever I go."

Advent Retreat

December 2–3

$120 for a shared room | $145 for a single room

It’s time to register for this year’s Advent Retreat! Join us at Chanco as we delve into our faith journeys while learning about the Candles of Advent, their meanings, and how we experience those meanings in our daily lives. Activities will include praise, Lectio Divina style Bible study and discussion, candle making, faith journals, and more.

For the first time, this Advent retreat is coed and open to all adults!

We have had a blessed year at Chanco. The ability to come back together and hold so many retreats, events and have a summer full of happy children makes all of our hearts smile. Summer Staff Town Hall

On December 8th from 6:30–7:30pm, participants get the chance to discover more about Chanco on the James through conversations with a panel of Chanco's leadership and past summer camp counselors. The event is open to all interested applicants.

Chanco Seeking Director of Programs

The Director of Programs will assist in facilitating the year-round program, ministry, and operation of Chanco on the James. S/he develops new retreat programs, provides world-class Episcopal hospitality to all guests, and oversees the operation of the summer camp program all under the direction of the Executive Director. Responsibilities include customer service, “hands on” activity facilitation, planning, camper and staff supervision, as well as staff recruiting and hiring.

Winter Camp 2023

January 13–15, 2023

$125

This fun-filled weekend is perfect for kids who are missing some Chanco sunshine or for first-timers who want to see if camp is a good fit for them. Ages 7–12

This weekend features:

Zip Lines — Archery — Awesome Counselors— Giant Bonfire! — Skits — GaGa — Food — Game — Friends — Music — Worship!

Pray—Write—Stretch

Spiritual Writing and Yoga Retreat

January 27–29

$175 double room — $225 single room*

Delve into faith using three vehicles: yoga, prayer and writing. Receive prompts to give you a place to begin and receive feedback so you can leave the retreat with an essay. You will be lead through yoga classes incorporating themes from Epiphany. Every day will include creative worship and an open mic night will give all an opportunity to share their work.

This retreat is open to everyone. and all activities are optional: if you want to write and skip the yoga or do yoga and skip writing, you are welcome to do so.

*Price includes all meals — Scholarships are available through the diocese
