Former Birmingham News editor Carol Nunnelley dies
Carol Nunnelley, a longtime reporter and editor for The Birmingham (Alabama) News, has died, leaving behind a legacy of love for journalism. Nunnelley died on Dec. 3 after a long illness. She was 80, born on Christmas Day in 1942.
Free Press roundup: Bellingham daily cutting print days, plus layoffs, AI
In the latest cutback stretching the definition of “daily newspaper,” The Bellingham Herald announced that it will only print two editions per week starting Jan. 29. This is part of a broad trend of newspapers reducing print frequency and delivery as they pivot toward the internet.
Twenty-one states saw bills in 2023 that would have significantly curtailed newspaper notice, a number that is at the high end of the normal range for these kinds of bills. The only one to pass was Ohio HB-33.
