We are pleased to announce Jared Smith as our guest speaker. Jared’s topic is “When Hope isn’t a Strategy”.

Jared Smith has dedicated most of his career to building businesses and advising senior leaders in high-growth, purpose-driven organizations. Jared is a 3rd Degree Blackbelt in Karate, an active boxer and has recently led, organized, and endured a year-long training simulation with US Navy SEALS.

LOCAL PROCUREMENT OPPORTUNITIES
In order to assist local business in gaining information on business opportunities with local municipalities, Wainwright Garrison etc., the Wainwright Economic Development Office will periodically send out opportunities to businesses that are listed on   merx.com  and CanadaBuys that pertain particularly to Wainwright and area.

These are systems used by the Government for procurement of goods and services over $25,000.
SMALL COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM
The Small Community Opportunity Program (the Program) provides grants to tackle challenges and tap into opportunities in rural areas. Indigenous and small communities, as well as non-profit groups they work with, may receive between $20,000 and $100,000 for local projects. By building capacity in the agriculture industry and small business, these rural communities will grow their economic footprint.
NEW ONLINE TOOL FOR NON-PROFIT AND VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATIONS
The new online resources found at https://www.alberta.ca/grants-funding-and-supports-for-non-profits provide a one-stop access to information to help start, manage and build capacity in a non-profit or charitable organization, no matter what sector the organization serves.
 
Services and supports include:
  • Sector information - Information and opportunities to invest in the sector
  • Non-profit management - Information, supports and resources for starting a non-profit, managing a non-profit and ending or closing a non-profit
  • Supports and services for non-profits - Information and links to access community-based supports and services to help develop and strengthen operations
  • Board member and governance training - Online courses and training resources on governance to support board members of non-profit organizations
  • Grant information and application support - Information and resources related to funding for non-profits including:
  • resources to support preparing and applying for grants;
  • a link to the Crowdfunding Alberta platform for Alberta non-profit organizations to share their ideas and seek community support; and,
  • the Arts, Culture and Sports Grant Search tool, which is a searchable inventory of grant programs offered by the ministries of Arts, Culture and Status of Women and Tourism and Sport.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT FUND
The Town of Wainwright offers funding to community groups or organizations providing an event or activity that will encourage positive economic activity in the community. Funding is made available annually through the Town of Wainwright’s Economic Development Support Fund Budget.
