LMUD to Discuss Rate Adjustment

at Tuesday Evening Meeting

The Lassen Municipal Utility District Board of Directors will be asked to consider adjusting the current kilowatt hour charge at the public-owned utility’s November 22nd, regular board meeting. The board meeting will be held at the LMUD business office located at 65 S. Roop Street at 5:30p.m.

Item 18 on the board’s November agenda relates to a quarterly review of the district’s current cost analysis and the board will be asked to approve the recommended rate change.

lmudupdate image

“The PDCA allows for rates to increase by no more than one half cent, however, there is no limit to the amount rates may be decreased,” explains LMUD Public Relations Manager Theresa Philips.

“The current PDCA indicates that LMUD is under collecting, and therefore the recommendation will be to adjust the current rate upward by a half cent per kilowatt hour.”

LMUD’s average customer uses approximately 800 kilowatt hours per month. If the rate adjustment is approved, customers would see, on average, a $4.00 per month increase in their bill.

According to Philips, the board will also receive a 14401 report from the District’s General Manager to consider an adjustment to the district’s energy charge. The action requested is to set a date for the public hearing in which the rates will be reviewed. The hearing will be noticed to the public and the public will have an opportunity to comment during the hearing. Public hearings are posted in accordance with state regulations.

Brothers Injured in War Recover in Same Hospital

November 21, 1944

A war story with a happy ending relates to two well known Lassen county boys, Pfc. Fred Ellena, 19, and his brother, T/S. Leon Ellena, 27.

According to Mr. And Mrs. Fred Ellena, Sr., of Standish, word was received from their sons that both had suffered injuries while serving with the United States army on the continent.

Pfc. Fred Jr. was wounded in action on July 14, in France, when shot through the body, because of the violence of fighting around him, he was forced to lie unaided on the ground for four days and nights. It was not until the fifth day that he was able to crawl a short distance to a stream where he was found by an American lieutenant.

T/S. Leon Ellena has been wounded in action twice. On D-Day in France, his right leg was fractured in two places. After a period of recuperation, he was sent back to the front and on August 31, while fighting in Belgium he was shot twice through the left leg. One bullet penetrated below the knee and the other shattered the kneecap.

In spite of the fact that both boys had not seen each other since going overseas, they are now recovering in the same hospital in England, due to efforts of their parents and the Red Cross.

The Ellenas have another son, Ray, 23, seaman 1/c, attending a special school in Coronado.
