Dear Normandale Families,

Testing. Testing. 1,2,3. Assessment season has begun at Normandale. This week 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) in Reading. Next week these same students will take the Math MCA and the last week of April, 5th graders will take the Science MCA.

Next month 2nd grade students will take the Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) in Math.

These standardized assessments are used to help EPS and Normandale gauge student progress across the district and over time. The MCAs also provide valuable information about individual student progress for next year’s teachers. In addition to these standardized measures, Normandale K-5 teachers are also busy gathering math and literacy data via less formal measures. At the lower grades these assessments target foundational literacy and math skills like letter sounds, nonsense words, decomposing (subtraction) and place value. At the upper grades, curriculum-based measures are used to gauge reading fluency, accuracy and comprehension. Regardless of the grade-level, these data points are used to help make instructional decisions for students.

Being in-person this school year has helped Normandale staff leverage all of these tools for student learning. We hope to build on this momentum next year when we start the school year off with connect and assess conferences on August 29 and 30.

BONJOUR CAMPS SUMMER 2022

Are you interested in having your child practice French over the summer? Through the Edina Community Education program we have Normandale teachers Madame Abdo, Madame Heffelfinger, Madame Thomas, Madame Suglia, and Madame May who will be teaching our Bonjour Camps! This is a great opportunity for our students to practice their French before the fall. Links and dates for camps are listed below. Please note that the grade level is the grade they will be entering in the fall.

Please sign up HERE if you are able to help!

We still welcome volunteers to supervise lunch in the Normandale Auditorium. Please sign up HERE if you are able to help.

Please note that volunteers are allowed in the auditorium only, not in the cafeteria other than Friday lunch service.
