Each April, CVOEO's Housing Advocacy Programs celebrate the 1968 passage of the Fair Housing Act with a series of public education and art events to raise awareness about housing discrimination in Vermont and the positive role that inclusive, affordable housing plays in thriving communities. Statewide activities include virtual workshops, community housing discussions, webinars, art projects, and more.

At CVOEO, we know that education and engagement are critical and reciprocal components of our work toward creating a more just society. We are part of the communities in which we work and live, and together we create belonging and connection. Thank you for showing up for our community and for joining us this month, and all year long.
Fair Housing Fridays
CVOEO’s Housing Advocacy Programs have been hard at work collaborating with partner organizations across the state to provide a robust array of learning and engagement opportunities related to fair housing throughout the month of April. Join us each Friday for new, free-to-access, informal video sessions covering all things fair housing. Each session will dig into niche and creative housing topics/issues, and be led by community leaders, those with lived experience in the housing field, as well as representatives from intersecting fields like climate change and racial justice.

Save the date for the following free video sessions:

  • April 7: Designing Affordable Housing For and With the People Who Live There
  • April 14: Housing Crisis in the Upper Valley
  • April 21: Expanding our Housing Vernacular

Champlain Street Park Community Action Day
April 19, 2023
Join us for the Champlain Street Park Community Action Day, a service and educational opportunity aimed at helping our communities thrive.

On April 19, from 11:00AM - 2:00PM at Champlain Street Park, 189 South Champlain Street in Burlington, CVOEO staff members will join community members to prepare our local park for springtime planting. Gather with our neighbors and learn about how housing security and community agency contribute to thriving, inclusive communities.

CVOEO's Fair Housing team will also offer insight into why community engagement matters and share information about other conversations and activities happening throughout the remainder of Fair Housing Month.
Meet the Board of Directors
Cody Fiala
Over the next several months, we are thrilled to highlight various members of CVOEO's Board of Directors. This month we are pleased to introduce Cody Fiala, Board of Directors President and a Board representative of Franklin and Grand Isle Counties.
"The people who work at CVOEO every day with such care, dedication, energy, and talent inspire me to serve on the Board in support of their passion for justice and compassion for people."
Voices Against Violence
Annual Clothesline Project
Join Voices Against Violence and the Abenaki Nation of Missisquoi on April 14 and 15 in Taylor Park in St. Albans for the annual Clothesline Project, an opportunity for survivors and their loved ones to process their emotions through artistic expression. Decorated shirts are then hung on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to the problem of violence in our community.

The purpose of the project is to increase awareness of the impact of violence and abuse, to honor a survivor’s strength to continue, and to provide another avenue for them to courageously break the silence that often surrounds their experience.
