January 27, 2022
To Our LFHS Faculty, Staff, Parents, and Guardians:

We have crossed the halfway mark of our school year and while our students are progressing in their academics and extracurriculars, we are also making strides in our District goals. January marks my sixth month in the Superintendent seat in Lake Forest. I am grateful to the District 115 Board for the opportunity to lead the District and to our community for making our family feel at home.

In these early months, we have embarked on big District goals including facilities master planning, balancing the District’s budget, and creating a new vision for all of our schools through our Portrait of a Graduate work. We are ensuring that we have the fiscal, physical, and instructional infrastructures in place that will allow today and tomorrow’s students to develop the knowledge, experiences, and skills they need as future leaders.

Highlights of Our Progress

  • With the leadership of Principal Erin Lenart, District 115 will be updating the structure of our administrative team to better and more efficiently support the evolving needs of our students and staff. This will allow for a more collaborative approach for creating and attaining our future goals for education innovation and continued academic excellence.

  • This restructuring will result in cost savings that will help the District reach a balanced budget in the 2022-2023 school year. We deeply appreciate our community’s continued investment in our schools and developing future-ready students. Balancing our budget is an essential piece of our long-term success.

  • Our Portrait of a Graduate visioning sessions begin February 3 with a focus on engaging faculty, staff, families, community members, and civic leaders in creating a shared vision for our schools in District 67, District 115, and District 65. Through this collaboration, we are establishing a common set of core competencies that will equip our graduates with the academic and social-emotional foundation they need to become future leaders, empowered to make a difference in their field of choice.

  • Our facilities master planning work, which began in 2019, is again underway. We have a dedicated group of stakeholders participating on our Facilities Master Plan Oversight Committee and have met three times since November. We will host a Facilities Master Plan Community Forum at the High School on March 1 at 6:30 PM to provide an update to interested staff and community members on this work. We will discuss our District 115 facilities road map, and invite you to join us in reimagining our current and future learning spaces.

Following many months of listening and connecting at all levels of our school community, I am pleased to begin activating these plans to reach our ambitious goals. I will continue to keep you updated on our progress.

Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.
