October WyTN Spotlight
Recover Wyoming is a non-profit and federally designated Recovery Community Organization (RCO) and is currently the only RCO in Wyoming. Their focus is to help people find, get, and stay in long-term recovery from substance use disorder. Recover Wyoming provide the Recovery Community Center, which is a safe, sober place for people to come and get information and resources, talk to someone about recovery, or just to have a cup of coffee. They also provide peer-to-peer recovery support services through our Recovery Coach and Telephone Recovery Support (TRS) programs.

Lana Mahoney has been a Wyoming resident the majority of her life and a Cheyenne resident for over 30 years. Her background is in Behavioral Health and Recovery Support services. She began her journey with Recover Wyoming in 2011 as a volunteer and has since worked for the organization in various roles including; Administrative Assistant, Laramie County Veterans Treatment Court Coordinator, Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH) Case Manager, and Peer Specialist Training Coordinator. She has been instrumental in furthering the Peer Specialist profession in the state.
WyTN Patient Video Resource
Patient education is critical in the success of providing virtual care. That’s why the WyTN developed a short video that you can utilize to help your patients and providers get the most out of their telehealth visit. This video will help patients learn more about what telehealth is, and how to schedule, prepare for, and participate in telehealth appointments.
Some ideas for how to share this video include:
  • Email it to patients before telehealth visits
  • Feature it on your website
  • Share it with potential patients in community and learning environments such as senior centers, nursing homes, & support groups

We hope that this video will assist you in explaining and offering telehealth to your patients. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at wy-telehealth@uwyo.edu.

CDC Telehealth Opportunity
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) seeks to identify and evaluate health systems and healthcare providers delivering innovative telehealth services to prevent and manage cardiovascular disease (CVD) by addressing hypertension, high blood cholesterol, or stroke. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the widespread adoption of telehealth among health systems, creating a new landscape of healthcare delivery.

DHDSP is especially interested in evaluating how the broad expansion of telehealth has affected populations and communities disproportionately affected by CVD. Nominating a health system or provider (or encouraging your health system or provider partners to nominate themselves) will help CDC build practice practice-based evidence and identify the opportunities and challenges of using telehealth to prevent and manage CVD.
Please reach out to Julia Jordan at JJordan1@cdc.gov by
October 22 to submit a nomination.
