Newark launches effort to update 2014 bicycle plan | |
As reported by the Newark Post, "This year, Newark was named a silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community. Now, officials are hoping that a months-long effort to update the city's bicycle plan will help make Newark even better for cyclists and upgrade the city's status to gold. The project kicked off this month as a collaboration between the city's planning department, BikeNewark and the Wilmington Area Planning Council. The groups plan to spend the next few months doing outreach to the public. The final plan will have to be approved by city council in the spring." | |

Delaware joins tech program that gives truckers a heads up on congestion, accidents | |
As reported by Delaware Business Now!, "The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces the launch of traffic safety notifications for commercial truck drivers, a program delivered in partnership with Drivewyze and its Smart Roadways services. The alerts will cover all freeways in the state. Smart Roadways is an agency-sponsored notification service that extends public highway safety programs into the cabs of commercial trucks." | |

Wilmington-Newport trail gets $23M in fed funds | |
As reported by the Delaware Business Times, "For years, politicians and trail advocates have been hoping for a path to connect the 17 miles around the Wilmington area. That dream is one step closer to becoming reality with a $23 million federal grant issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation to build the Newport River Trail. The project includes a 2-mile, shared-use path that would run alongside wetlands and the Christina River." | |

Wilmington project to make city more accessible for disabled | |
According to Town Square Live, "Teams of engineers will be spending the next few weeks focused on Wilmington sidewalks, as part of a larger effort to make the city safe and accessible for people with disabilities. The goal is to be in complete compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, which was enacted in 1990 to ensure that people with disabilities are guaranteed access to all programs and services provided by state and local governments." | |

Working group to help Wilmington move forward with EV charging station planning | |
As reported by Delaware Public Media, "Wilmington forms a group to look at ways for the city to incorporate electric vehicle charging stations. The 13-member Electric Vehicle Charging Station Working Group is made up of government, community, and business members - seven members were chosen by Mayor Mike Purzycki with the other six selected by Wilmington City Council. The group is charged with trying to determine how to accommodate electric vehicle owners who need to charge their vehicles. It will also help guide law and policy related to a permitting process for charging stations." | |

New Motorcycle Helmet Law Aims to Reduce Fatalities | |
The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) and the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) aim to reduce motorcycle fatalities with a new endorsement motorcycle helmet law that went into effect on September 1, 2023. The new law will require everyone who obtains a new motorcycle endorsement on or after the above date or anyone riding with that person to wear a helmet and eye protection for two years after they receive their endorsement." | |

Federal highway agency announces $100M for EV charger reliability grants | |
As reported by Transportation Today, "The Federal Highway Administration (FHA) said it would be taking applications for up to $100 million in grants to improve electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. The grants, part of the Electric Vehicle Charger Reliability and Accessibility Accelerator program, will provide grant funding to repair and replace existing but non-operational EV charging infrastructure." | |
