World TB Day 2023

World TB Day 2023 hosted keynote speaker Dr. Achilles Katamba from Makerere University, Uganda, an exchange with London World TB Day, sessions on the experience of established and early-stage investigators, a patient advocate panel, and sessions designed by SF TB Clinic on the challenges and heroes of TB public health in the US (thank you Janice Louie and team). Thank you to those who participated in-person and virtually!

We deeply appreciate the WTBD 2023 Planning Committee members, Drs. Sara Suliman, Devan Jaganath, Sophie Huddart, and Paul Ogongo for your hard work to bring us this event. The event would not have been possible without the coordination of Barbara Alonso and Elisha Couchman, with support from the Curry Center team!

Thank you to the WTBD Oversight Committee for providing direction and support to the Planning Committee of early-stage investigators. Thank you Drs. Payam Nahid, Lisa Chen, Patrick Phillips, Elizabeth Fair, Susannah Graves, Jenny Flood, and Kelly Musoke, Sarah Hutchinson, Elisha Couchman, and Barbara Alonso.

Center for Tuberculosis

We welcome Dr. Elizabeth Fair to serve as the Associate Director of Mentorship and Training with the UCSF Center for Tuberculosis. Dr. Fair is the Co-Director of the TB RAMP program, Co-Director of the UC TRAC Developmental Core, and Director of the PhD Program with Institute for Global Health Sciences.

Congratulations to Dr. Babak Javid, for his election to the prestigious American Society for Clinical Investigation (the ASCI). Election to the ASCI is a significant honor that recognizes an investigator’s contributions to biomedical science and human health. The process is rigorous, and each year only a fraction of those that are nominated are elected.

Dr. Javid serves as Center for Tuberculosis Associate Director of Bench Science, as well as the Co-Director of the UC TRAC Basic Core.
