What Election Day means for Colorado physicians

Election Day has passed and some surprising results capped an intense campaign season during which physicians around the state interviewed state-level candidates and influenced endorsements made by the CMS Political Action Committee (COMPAC) Board of Directors.

COMPAC endorsed candidates in 67 statehouse races this year, making some hard calls in races based upon where candidates stand on priorities like caps and scope of practice. Being non-partisan and pro-physician, we have friends on both sides of the aisle: 52 percent of endorsed candidates were Ds and 48 percent were Rs. We support medicine's champions and do not expect to win all races. With some races still undecided, COMPAC has a projected candidate win rate of 88 percent in the House and 69 percent in the Senate.

Building upon the great work of our candidate interviews, this is now a very important time for CMS members to continue the momentum. We encourage you to take a moment to reach out to the winner of your House or Senate district. Find your district and incumbent legislators through the Find My Legislator tool or reply to this email for help finding contact information for newly elected candidates.
Any individual 18 and older can contribute. Contribution limits apply. $50/year to the SDC; $625/election cycle to COMPAC. If you think you may have met the contribution limit already, contact chet_seward@cms.org.
Looking forward to the 2023 Colorado General Assembly

On the heels of two previous legislative sessions with many health policy bills, 2023 is setting up to be a busy year with rising health care costs, scope of practice, and ensuring access to quality and safe health care on many legislators' minds.

Be sure to watch for future PolicyPulse e-newsletters to stay up to date on what's happening at the capitol and how you can help the effort.

We will need stories about how proposed legislation will affect your patients and your practice. If you have a story to share, email enews_editor@cms.org.
