Health Update
This weekend, string players will begin sharing stands, while continuing to remain similarly distanced from one another.

All string players are still expected to bring their music every week.
December Nights Rehearsal Schedule
THIS Saturday, December 4
Wilson Middle School
El Cajon Blvd, between 37th and 39th St (see map below).

December Nights is an annual holiday festival in Balboa Park. The event draws over 375,000 visitors and the park will be very busy and crowded on Saturday, 12/4. To avoid these crowds, Saturday rehearsals have been moved to Wilson Middle School.  All Sunday rehearsals are as normal in Balboa Park. Please see the modified Saturday rehearsal times below:
Showcase schedule:

  • Sinfonia: 8:30am - 10:30pm

  • Wind Symphony: 10:45am - 12:45pm

  • Philharmonia: 1:00pm - 3:00pm

  • Concert Winds: 1:15pm - 3:00pm

  • Concert Orchestra: 3:15pm - 5:15pm
Ovation Schedule:

  • Chamber Orchestra: 3:30 - 5:00pm

  • Symphony Orchestra: 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Please note: the modified schedule is in the rehearsal calendar. Any absences accrued on this day are counted towards the student's total allotment.

Beginning and Debut ensembles will be having a performance class during normal rehearsal times on Sunday, December 12, 2021. More detailed information to come!
Led by SDYS musicians, and mentored by SDYS program managers, Kaitlyn Korogy and Dr. Lauren Rausch, the SDYS Youth Leadership Council brings together young leaders from across SDYS programs to connect and contribute to the future of SDYS.

Youth leaders meet together twice a month on Zoom or in Balboa Park to collaborate and utilize a secure, private group chat to share ideas in between meetings.

Eligibility:
  • Current SDYS musician in good standing
  • Ages 14 and over
  • Participants must have parent/guardian permission to join

Would you like to demonstrate your instrument for young children ages 0-5 and their caregivers as a ChIMES Guest Musician?

Please complete the Guest Musician Interest Form and we will get in touch to confirm details! This is a fun experience that also counts for community service or volunteer hours.

Applications Open for National Youth Ensembles
Applications for the 2022 season of the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA), NYO2, and NYO Jazz are now open.

Carnegie Hall’s national youth ensembles bring together the finest teen musicians from across the country for training led by a stellar faculty of leading players from America’s top professional orchestras and esteemed jazz performers, and performance opportunities on the world’s greatest stages. 

In summer 2022, conductor Daniel Harding—music and artistic director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra—joins NYO-USA as guest conductor, leading the ensemble on a European tour. NYO2 returns to Miami Beach for its residency and performance, continuing its partnership with the New World Symphony. Sean Jones returns for his fifth year as artistic director and bandleader of NYO Jazz, which will embark on a US tour.
