Parent Groups and Workshops
At Spectrum Services we believe that parents must be partners in their child’s educational program.

For this reason we offer Parent Support and Parent Workshops free for any parent of a child with a developmental disability.

Funding is provided through grants from the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities. Click on the workshop for details. More June workshops in the making!

A great way to increase a child’s vocabulary is to use themes. Themes allow multiple exposure to new words in varied contexts and activities (e.g., book-reading and a related play-based activity).

A deep vocabulary requires making connection between words and concepts and tying them all together in meaningful ways. We will discuss activities and ways to use themes to expand vocabulary.

Present by Latasha Galloway and Corinne Robinson, Spectrum Services Speech Pathologists.

Pot Luck Dinner & Parent Discussion Group 6/15
Pot Luck, Parent Discussion, and our Sibling Group & Childcare

Our parent discussion group offers you the chance to share parenting experiences, discuss community resources and ideas, and learn about upcoming conferences and new research.

We can also offer support to one another in an informal and comfortable setting. This is not an open house and the classroom staff and therapists will not be in attendance.

The special sibling discussion groups (ages 6-12) is an opportunity for your child/ren to interact with other children who have a sibling with special needs and may be experiencing similar feelings and concerns.

The group will include various fun activities (games, cooking, discussion, art) designed to help children learn many new ways of playing and interacting with their sibling in a fun and understanding manner.

2. Remember, it is imperative your child attend the full first week of the program, and the full last week of the program.

If for some reason your child cannot attend the summer program, please contact your Family Service Coordinator as soon as possible.
New York Governor on Baby Formula Shortage
Governor Kathy Hochul last week announced resources for New York families amid nationwide infant formula shortages.

On February 17, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned consumers not to use certain powdered infant formula products from Abbott Nutrition's Sturgis, Michigan facility, and Abbott initiated a voluntary recall of certain products.

Since that time, the Food and Drug Administration has been working with Abbott and other manufacturers to bring safe products to the U.S. market and to increase the availability of infant and specialty formula products. Click Here for more information.
