November Communion & Mission Focus
Grace Place United Methodist Church
Grace Place is a mission church chartered through the United Methodist Congregations. It is located in the Women’s State Prison located in Henning, TN. Rev. Diane Harrison is the pastor.
Grace Place UMC functions like any other congregation enjoying worship, choir practice, study groups, book club, crochet group, and exercise classes. The congregation is active through mission and outreach inside and outside the prison. In the course of a week, over 120 women participate in the ministries offered through Grace Place!
In Rev. Diane Harrison’s office, a shop is located at 2786 Stage Center Drive in Bartlett, where one can purchase beautiful lovingly crocheted items personally made by the women in the Grace Place congregation. All the proceeds of the items purchased go to missions supported by Grace Place UMC.
Prayerfully consider supporting the members of Grace Place. Your loving donation will help support the women and missions of Grace Place UMC.

Service Opportunity: Bless families of children with special needs!
Covenant UMC is a host for SRVS Kids through their Early On program hosted on Thursday mornings. This is a support group that is offered to SRVS families with children having special needs, ages 0-4.
On Friday, December 2nd from 6:00-8:30 p.m., SRVS is having a special parents’ night out at Covenant UMC, which allows them to have some quiet time, go out to dinner or get some Christmas shopping done. Santa will be arriving to visit the children during that time. We will take each child's picture with Santa; the children will eat a snack and open a gift from Santa.
SRVS has 9 Developmental Therapists volunteering who are CPR/First Aid Certified as well as a Teacher from Play Do Learn (SRVS) Preschool that provides care to children with special needs daily. Dinah Montague is the SRVS Kids Early Intervention Director and a registered nurse that will be volunteering that night as well. The children will bring their own snacks that will be labeled due to allergies and the goal is to take each child's picture with Santa to provide the parents or caregivers the picture as a keepsake.
We have the opportunity for about 10 people from Covenant UMC to volunteer their time and energy to assist the SRVS staff on this evening to assist with the pictures and keepsakes. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with some very precious children of God and provide a gift to their parents in the form of a keepsake and a couple of hours to catch their breath.
If you and or your Sunday School class or group, would be interested in giving of your time to touch the lives of these families, please email Jennifer Cavitt at Jennifer.Cavitt@srvs.org or call/text at 731-697-7236.

Join us for Book Club Thursday, December 15 at 5:30. We will be discussing the book Skipping Christmas by John Grisham.
"Imagine a year without Christmas. No crowded malls, no corny office parties, no fruitcakes, no unwanted presents. That’s just what Luther and Nora Krank have in mind when they decide that, just this once, they’ll skip the holiday altogether.
A classic tale for modern times from a beloved storyteller, John Grisham’s Skipping Christmas offers a hilarious look at the chaos and frenzy that have become part of our holiday tradition."
We are planning a potluck of appetizers, finger foods and dessert. Please bring one of your favorites to share! Fun evening - guaranteed!
RSVP to joyceafeger@gmail.com or 21sandrews@gmail.com

Advent Study
led by Rachel Roberts
|
Is the Christmas story just something that happened a long time ago...or is it a story that is still happening today?
For too many of us the celebration of Christmas has lost its wonder. Maybe for you it has become a bittersweet season of complicated family rituals, or a predictable brand masking unquenchable consumerism, or simply a sacred story that feels far from any
relevance in our current chaotic world.
Written by celebrated artist-storyteller Scott Erickson Honest Advent seeks to illuminate the astonishing, hope-filled truth that the God who showed up in the hardest parts of our humanity is still showing up today in those same places.
This 25 day devotional begins on December 1st. Rachel is inviting people to read the devotional and then meet on Sunday, December 11 at 9am in the Spirit Center (this is a one service Sunday) and again on Sunday, December 18 at 9am in classroom 103 in the Sanctuary Bldg to share in reflections and discussions about the reading.
Books are available for $10 in the church office.
