CTSI Update

Overton, Policy Impact, and Evaluation

Do your publications have an impact on policy?

Do you think about how your published work can progressively

gain traction for translation and generate a lasting footprint?

Translation of research can take multiple, non-linear translation pathways, such as innovation and product development, clinical practice, policy, integrated health services, and education and training. (Refer to the figure below). When translation of research is successful, the resulting outcomes can deliver significant impacts on patient health, advancing systems, and changing culture within a healthcare system.

Understanding Policy Impact: Your Research, Real-World Change

Policy Impact is one pathway to research translation used to understand how and where this happens. The BU CTSI Evaluation Team has been working on an initiative to engage with our investigator community to examine the policy translation pathway. The BU CTSI evaluators utilize the Overton Policy platform to monitor and evaluate the impact of biomedical investigators’ publications on policy. This includes citations and mentions in government and international organization policy changes, clinical guidelines, regulations, and legislation. In addition to that, the use of technologies in delivery of improving public health services informed by research findings and testimony.

Engage with Us: Uncover Your Research's Impact

We invite you, our esteemed investigators, to join us in this conversation.

Let's explore how your research translates to policy and can foster real change. Whether you wish to discuss findings, request a detailed analysis on your publication portfolio, or arrange a presentation to learn more about Overton and policy impact, our BU CTSI Assistant Director for Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement, Kayla Kuhfeldt, MPH, is ready to assist.
