Things to See & Do in Baltimore
Join novelist Sufiya Abdur-Rahman at The Ivy Bookshop on Friday, November 19, for a reading and Q&A celebrating her debut memoir, Heir to the Crescent Moon. Sufiya will be in conversation with fellow Goucher MFA, Jesse J. Holland. This event will take place in-person on The Ivy's back patio. Refreshments start at 5:30 p.m.; the reading starts at 6:30 pm. A SHOW FOR ALL AGES
A Fanciful, Family-Friendly Production at FPCT
On Friday, Fells Point Corner Theatre opens its production of Maricela de la Luz Lights the World by Academy-award nominated writer José Rivera. This fanciful, family-friendly production follows the adventures of Maricela and her brother Riccardo as they save the world from impending climate catastrophe, reminding audiences that the power to change the world lies within each of us. PENN AVE: NOW AND THEN
Presented by the Black Arts District
On Saturday, November 20 from 12:00–3:00 p.m., the Black Arts District will hold a community event to announce the launch of the Historical Photography Project Archive. This archive is an exciting interactive and accessible online library and oral history tool that documents Black cultural memory in West Baltimore. Community members are encouraged to bring photographs from their personal collections that tell the history of Pennsylvania Avenue. Plus, join in a discussion with Rosa Pryor-Trusty, Charles Tilghman Jr., Kendrick Tilghman, and Webster Phillips where they'll share stories about living, working, and/or frequenting arts and entertainment venues on Pennsylvania Avenue and in West Baltimore. ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Focusing on Baltimore's Brightest Artists

Even if you don't know local image maker Ernest Shaw Jr., you've probably seen his work all over Baltimore. His vivid paintings are unmissable. Shaw has completed several large-scale murals at various intersections throughout the City. He recently completed his latest piece on the corner of E. North Ave. and N. Collington Ave. commissioned by the New Broadway East Community Association. Last month, Shaw participated in Baltimore Open Studio Tour (OST) Weekend — inviting art lovers and collectors into his studio at the Motor House for an intimate look at several of his projects in progress. Shaw's images highlight the humanity of the Black/Africanist experience and delivers authentic portrayals of the Black body. CHRISTMAS VILLAGE PREVIEW WEEKEND
Get an Early Taste of the Holidays
The Christmas Village in Baltimore runs from Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve, but you can get a sneak peek this weekend! The Village will be open for a preview weekend this Saturday–Sunday, November 20–21. The Christmas Village in Baltimore is a combination of an outdoor & indoor holiday market at West Shore Park at the Inner Harbor. The event is modeled after the traditional Christmas Markets in Germany like the famous Christkindl Market in Nuremberg. For hours, vendors, special tastings, and more, click below.

At Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse
Head over to Red Emma's Bookstore Coffeehouse on Saturday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m., for the launch party of Fred Sharmen's new book, Space Forces: A Critical History of Life in Outer Space. This radical history of space exploration from the Russian Cosmists to Elon Musk reveals a completely different story of our relationship with outer space, as well as the dangers of our current direction of extractive capitalism and colonization. TAKE A STROLL DOWN CANDY LANE
Experience Downtown in a Sweet, New Way
On Saturday, November 20, the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore opens Candy Lane at Center Plaza. Candy Lane is a larger-than-life candy-themed experience with installations, thousands of lights, and seasonal entertainment. Candy lane is open to the public from 5:00–9:00 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, until Thursday, December 23, 2021. ONGOING EXHIBIT AT THE CARROLL MANSION
The Guardians: Reshaping History Exhibition
The Guardians is a photo documentary and storytelling project from lead artists Whitney Frazier and Kirby Griffin that includes photo portraits, large scale banners, and digital archives that celebrate unrecognized Black female leaders across Baltimore City neighborhoods. This project provides a platform for women who spend their lives fighting for a better, more equitable Baltimore. BOOK-TURNED-EXHIBITION HONORING BLACK FASHION & ART
Writer and curator Antwaun Sargent’s book-turned-exhibition, The New Black Vanguard: Photography Between Art and Fashion, aims to "draw attention to the burgeoning movement of Black contemporary photographers working across the fine art and fashion worlds. Read more about this ongoing exhibition (until November 23) at the link below.

NEW MOSAIC SCULPTURE UNVEILED AT UMMC
Thanks to the local nonprofit Art with a Heart, a new mosaic sculpture was unveiled outside the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Gudelsky Entrance earlier this month. See this incredible gift and read about the folks who made it happen at the link below.

MAYA ANGELOU MURAL GOES UP IN BROOKLYN PARK
A mural paying homage to the incredible Maya Angelou was unveiled in the Brooklyn Park neighborhood last week. The work of art designed by artist Oliver James includes a depiction of Angelou alongside an inspiring quote. The Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar has beloved elements like hot food vendors and the Bazaar’s artisans. The Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar continues maintaining public health regulations to provide a safe experience for all.  

The 44th season runs weekly, 7:00 a.m.12:00 p.m. on Sundays through December 19, 2021, with continuous adaptation to maintain health and safety.
