Note From Principal Atkins
Stedman Families,
It's been a full week as we've had field trips, visits to the pumpkin patch, reading buddies, the school store, and much more. I'm grateful for the fun we were able to have at Fall Festival last week and look forward to the excitement and fun coming up on Halloween.
Shout out to our PTA and community members for putting on such a fun Fall Festival. From games to Zumba, hot dogs to cookie decorating, I saw a lot of smiles and conversations as families connected and celebrated the season.
Now that temperatures are dropping, I wanted to make sure everyone is aware of our weather policies. For drop-off, when the temperature is below 27 degrees or when rain/snow is significant, students will gather inside to wait for the bell. Above 27 degrees, students will still wait outside for the bell so be sure to arrive as close to 9:10am as possible or bundle your child up appropriately. (Please remember that we do NOT have supervision on our playground until 8:55am for our K-5 students. Please do not drop off students before that time.) This is the same temperature threshold for outdoor recess. While adults may find that chilly, our students overwhelmingly prefer to have recess outside, and we know how important physical activity is during the day for our young people. On days where there is snow on the ground, please be sure to send your student with appropriate shoes/boots and gloves. If you do not have access to any, please reach out to alison_larson@dpsk12.net or Ms. Rhonda so we can support you.
The District utilizes weather delays/late starts when there is significant weather, so make sure you check your texts or our social media when inclement weather is happening.

Ha sido una semana completa en la que hemos tenido excursiones, visitas al huerto de calabazas, compañeros de lectura, la tienda de la escuela y mucho más. Estoy agradecido por la diversión que pudimos tener en el Festival de Otoño la semana pasada y espero con ansias la emoción y la diversión que se avecinan en Halloween.
Un saludo a nuestra PTA y a los miembros de la comunidad por organizar un Festival de Otoño tan divertido. Desde juegos hasta Zumba, hot dogs y decoración de galletas, vi muchas sonrisas y conversaciones mientras las familias se conectaban y celebraban la temporada.
Ahora que las temperaturas están bajando, quería asegurarme de que todos conozcan nuestras políticas climáticas. Para dejarlos, cuando la temperatura sea inferior a 27 grados o cuando llueva/nieve significativamente, los estudiantes se reunirán adentro para esperar el timbre. Por encima de los 27 grados, los estudiantes seguirán esperando afuera hasta que suene el timbre, así que asegúrese de llegar lo más cerca posible de las 9:10 a. m. o abrigue a su hijo de manera adecuada. Update for Visitors
Starting on Monday, 10/30/23, we will be implementing the use of our Raptor Visitor Management system to ensure the continued safety for all of the students and staff. This system is being used across DPS.
What's changing?
- First time you visit the building, you will be required to have a photo ID (passport or driver's license)
- Returning visits, you will NOT have to have an ID to enter, we will look your name up in the system and be able to print a new visitors passes and run new reports.
DPS Visitor Access Guidelines
- All visitors must enter DPS buildings through the main entrance.

All visitors are required to have their identification scanned by the Raptor Visitor Management System. Please read Board of Education policies on School Visitors and Public Conduct on School Property.
- Pre-approved community partners will continue to have access to DPS schools. A DPS community partner is defined as those organizations providing staff and student support to our schools. Examples of DPS community partners may include private duty nurses, Boys and Girls Club of Denver, etc.

A partir del lunes 30/10/23, implementaremos el uso de nuestro sistema de gestión de visitantes Raptor para garantizar la seguridad continua de todos los estudiantes y el personal. Este sistema se utiliza en todo DPS.
¿Qué está cambiando?
- La primera vez que visite el edificio, se le solicitará una identificación con fotografía (pasaporte o licencia de conducir).
- Para visitas recurrentes, NO necesitará tener una identificación para ingresar, buscaremos su nombre en el sistema y podremos imprimir nuevos pases de visitante y generar nuevos informes.
Pautas de acceso para visitantes de DPS
- Todos los visitantes deben ingresar a los edificios de DPS por la entrada principal.
- Todos los visitantes deben tener su identificación escaneada por el Sistema de Gestión de Visitantes Raptor. Lea las políticas de la Junta de Educación sobre visitantes escolares y conducta pública en la propiedad escolar.
- Los socios comunitarios preaprobados seguirán teniendo acceso a las escuelas de DPS. Halloween Information
We know Halloween is a day of excitement for many of our students. We plan to minimize instructional disruption by holding our annual Costume parade and optional class parties at the end of the day on Halloween. Please note the following:
- No costumes can be worn during the day until we do the parade/parties that afternoon (so pack them in your child's backpack).
- The parade will start promptly at 3:25pm (starting upstairs and winding down to pick up younger students, followed by a walk on the blacktop back into the building). Parents/Family Members can watch on the blacktop/playground and join classes for parties after if they'd like!
- Class parties can take place after the parade (roughly 3:45-4:10pm). Teachers and families can talk about if they will have a party or not.

Costumes cannot have blood or weapons, and masks can only be worn during the parade if you have a mask with your costume.
Sabemos que Halloween es un día de emoción para muchos de nuestros estudiantes. Planeamos minimizar la interrupción de la instrucción mediante la celebración de nuestro desfile anual de disfraces y fiestas de clase opcionales al final del día de Halloween. Tenga en cuenta lo siguiente:
- No se pueden usar disfraces durante el día hasta que hagamos el desfile/las fiestas esa tarde (así que empaquételos en la mochila de su hijo).
