E-Vision

November 23, 2022

Dear Friends,

Remember this Thanksgiving that you are loved, and there's nothing you can do about it. We look forward to seeing you in worship this Sunday.

Our FBC Ministers and Staff wish you each the happiest of Thanksgivings. May your holiday leave you feeling rested and knowing that God loves you so much that He sent his only Son into the world to reclaim a relationship with you.

Please note that our Church Offices will close on Wednesday, November 23, at noon for the Thanksgiving holiday. Offices will reopen on Monday, November 28.

Let's Get Together

yeah, yeah, yeah

We will hold our annual, end-of-the-year Church Conference on December 11 immediately following the Connexion worship service. Lunch will be served in the gym before the conference. Those who wish to attend online should look for a link in the Sunday morning worship email. All members are encouraged to attend.

What's on Your Christmas List?

Did you pick up your Advent Conspiracy Devotional after service last Sunday? If not, they will be available again this weekend.

We invite you into our Advent Conspiracy where we will conspire together in the best of ways to worship fully, spend less, give more, and love all to the glory of God. Follow the link to hear what Ron Murray has to say about loving all.

Children's Ministry

(Birth-5th Grade)

Check out the pictures from our last two KIDMIN adventures in the "What's Been Happening?" section of the E-Vision below.

November 27: This Sunday, we will celebrate the coming of Advent in Celebration Service with our Children's Choir, and special music from the Sanctuary Choir and a Trombone Ensemble. In our Connexion Service, we will usher in the Advent season with a simple children's poinsettia processional as the congregation joins in worship.

Birthday Party for Jesus: On Wednesday, December 7th at 6:00 p.m., our KIDMIN program will be celebrating Jesus' birthday with cupcakes, games, crafts, and a service project.

Journey to the North Pole: If your child loves to stretch, wiggle, and squirm, then storytime yoga might be a great outlet to work out that energy. Sam Knox will be leading this session on December 14th at 6 p.m. in the FBC Gym. The cost will be $15 per child OR $10 per child with a donation item for the Spalding animal shelter. We will have cookies and hot cocoa at the event.

Missions

Christmas Toy Shop

The time is here for us to rally together in support of the Christmas Toy Shop. This ministry affords eligible families an opportunity to provide each of their children with two Christmas gifts. Your generosity and volunteer support shares the love of Jesus with these families. Please pray about the way you can best support this ministry. Here are the needs for the Toy Shop.

  • Please bring sock donations to the Christmas trees in the Welcome Centers (Hill Street side & 8th St. side) no later than November 27th.
  • On December 4th at 12:15 p.m. (following Connexion Worship), we need help setting up the Toy Shop. Lunch will be provided. Please call, text, or email Lori Harvey to sign up: 404-274-4824 or lorihharvey@gmail.com.
  • On December 5th and 6th, the Toy Shop will be open. We need help assisting the Toy Shop clients. One more volunteer sign up time will take place on November 27th following the Celebration and Connexion services.

Community: FBC Around Town

Let Your Praises Ring!

Santa is coming to town on December 2, but more importantly the Handbell Ensemble will be ringing in the Christmas season at the Historic City Hall in downtown Griffin! We hope you will join us from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. for this special community event.

Do you know a woman who could benefit from LifeSong?

The next LifeSong class will begin on February 27, 2023. If you know a woman that would benefit from the LifeSong program, please have them contact the ministry at 404-980-5549. You may also contact the program on behalf of a woman you would like to be considered for the program. Thank you for the prayer support and the love you show to these women.

Ways You Can Serve

If you have any questions, or if you would like to know how to get involved, please contact Seth Brown.

We are still looking for a few mentors! Please pray about your participation in this important program.

The mentor program through Griffin Spalding County Schools is looking for adults willing to serve as a mentor for a child at a minimum of 45 minutes a month during school hours (typically between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.). Mentoring takes many forms — reading a book, being read to, helping with school work, playing cards or board games, and even just being present and listening. To qualify to join our team of FBC Mentors, we need you to commit to there is a two hour training, a background check, and willingness to commit to meeting with your student for the rest of the school year.

KIDMIN Glow in the Dark Dodgeball

Did you know our gym could be converted into a glow-in-the-dark arena? Last week, 4th and 5th graders came ready to compete in an epic dodgeball battle.

Cookie Baking

What yummier way can you say "THANK YOU" to your local firefighters than to make them gigantic, delicious chocolate chip cookies? Thank you, Lori & all the KIDMIN crew for coming in on your break to cook up this great service project.

Welcoming in Advent

You will notice a cheery, warm glow to the church facilities when you come in this weekend. Members of the Decor Team and the staff have been diligently preparing for the Advent season. From nativity scenes to wreaths, from new blue paraments in the sanctuary to beautiful (Chrismon)trees throughout the church, we hope you will be reminded of hope, peace, joy, and love represented in these items.

Sign ups & Devotionals

The Christmas Toy Shop team has been signing up clients for several weeks in both of the Welcome Centers at the church. We are excited to share the love of Jesus with the children and their families through this ministry. You will also find the Advent Devotionals available in the Welcome Center on the Hill Street side of church and in the back of Morgan Hall in the Family Life Center. We hope your family will be intentional about using this devotional throughout Advent.

Other News & Events Around the Church

The church will be decorated for Advent and Christmas with fresh poinsettias and wreaths. If you would like to make a contribution in memory or in honor of someone to go toward this expense, please place your gift of $15.00 (per listing) and the name(s) of the person(s) you are remembering or honoring in the offering plate by Sunday, December 11. Gifts received provide wreaths, poinsettias, and other supplies. You may give online and enter the name of the honoree in the memo space.

A Conspiracy of Simplicity

by Steven Norris

This past Sunday, I sat in the choir loft, eyes glued on the handbell ensemble playing the offertory song. The tune that they were playing was an old Shaker hymn. Had they been singing, these are the words:

“'Tis the gift to be simple, 'Tis the gift to be free /
