September 10, 2021
Ah, sweet September – we made it. I have always been a fan of this month. Perhaps it is the fall colors or the cool breezes or maybe it is because it gives us 30 days to reflect on the really nice summer we had. We all need to take time to reflect on the good things in our lives.

There are so many people we want to thank for helping us out these last few months. From the extremely generous End of Summer Celebration Presenting Sponsor, Linda Lester of Lester Square Los Gatos, to all of you who graciously showed up for all of our events. Everyone mattered. You all played the part you were meant to play. As I tearfully said at the Council meeting a few weeks, I was honored that the Council allowed the Chamber of Commerce to organize the Promenades and the End of the Summer Celebration. Seeing those smiling faces, people greeting and hugging each other, hearing live music and dancing in the streets was magical and will for surely be a highlight in my Chamber career.

Of course, none of that organization would have been possible without the Chamber’s incredible staff who worked tirelessly all summer long. If you see Kathy Granger, Randi Chen or Donna McCurrie out and about, please make a point to thank them. We also need to thank a few of our other favorite people who we could not live without -- Luke Granger, Azie Habib and Arnold Breit, Sarah Hult, Christine Bowser and Erin Maguire. You were all very instrumental in making these summer events happen. Our sound system engineers lead by Perry Thorwaldson – were amazing. Stage set up at last week’s party was the work of Neal Turley and Bliss Productions. The live music at all of the events was exceptional.

We would like to give special thanks also to our other sponsors, El Camino Health, Harker School and Von Kaenel/Giambruno Real Estate. Our pop-up vendors and our wonderful service organizations were great as well, and added another dimension altogether to that last party.

The song ‘September Morn’ by Neil Diamond comes to mind when thinking about this past summer. While the song is of course somewhat romantic, the words are relatable. Listen to it as though he is singing to the sweet summertime and to our Los Gatos summer. It took us a while to find ourselves again, but we did. We all grew up a lot – and damn, look how far we have come. And we danced and danced. Let’s keep dancing until that brand new day. I think I underestimated the toll Covid has taken on me – or maybe it is the toll from politics or social media or the instability in the world. That is why on these September mornings, I am trying to reflect on that which is good and that which brings joy. No doubt what is joyful and good for one person might not look or feel exactly the same to another but there is always somewhere deep in our hearts, humanity and compassion for all.

With that sentiment, I invite you all to come out for the Wine Walk on October 2. Get your tickets today

I also encourage you to check out our new official website visitlosgatosca.com. While there are a few pages still under construction, we have officially launched it. Please share it with your friends and relatives who do not live here.

I hope to see some of you at the 20 year September 11th Anniversary at the Town’s Veteran’s Memorial this Saturday at 12:30. Don’t forget the following weekend, September 18-19, the Kiwanis will be hosting their Annual Fiesta de Artes

If you have other events you think we need to post, send them our way. You know how to reach us. We will post them on all of our sites.

Lastly, thanks so much to all of our Chamber members. Your membership dollars enable us to do all that we do in this Town. Your membership is worth even more than the dollars. It is the believing in us that really matters and your investment gives us the strength and courage to keep going.

Here’s to that great summer and to September mornings. Thanks all.

The Gala
Sunday, September 26 at La Estancia Estate, Los Gatos
featuring vocalist Dr. Kim Nalley
Dr. Kim Nalley has been awarded "Most Influential African American in the Bay Area" in 2005 and "Best Jazz Group" in 2013. She is already being called "legendary" and a "San Francisco institution". You will be awed by her aura of a diva from a by-gone era with vocal projection that can whisper a balladm, yet is capable of filling a room with no microphone. She has been compared to all the greats, but in the end, it's Kim Nalley and no one else - an unforced instrument with clarity and jazzy musicality, effortlessly delivered, and a sense of humor to boot.
