The Alliance warmly congratulates its newest Full Member School, Wasatch Charter School, located in Holladay, Utah. Wasatch successfully completed its school-wide self-study last year, examining its alignment with our Alliance Core Principles, then hosted a site visit in May. The site visit is an important part of the membership process, providing peer observation and feedback to a school. The members of the visiting team were warmly welcomed and were able to experience the school in action. They were very impressed by many aspects, including the overall mood, the commitment to our Alliance principles, strength in student support, a community-wide approach to social-emotional learning, and a specialized mixed-age class for students with exceptional needs.

Wasatch is the largest Alliance Member school, with around 700 students. It is inspiring to see how much innovation they bring to their educational model and the work they have put in to align with the Core Principles of Public Waldorf Education. We applaud them for their continued dedication to supporting children through an integrated developmental model that meets the needs of their students and the school community. Congratulations on your work and achievement, Wasatch Charter School!!!!

A picture of the school from the founding director, Emily Merchant:
Wasatch Charter School is nestled in the Salt Lake Valley in Utah in the shadow of the glorious Rocky Mountains. Drawing on the region's history, it is a pioneering school that has attracted students from throughout the valley and teachers from throughout the country and even the world. As the first Public Waldorf school in Utah, we have drawn strength over the past eight years of operations in our shared vision of bringing the fullness of Waldorf education into the public sphere with accessibility for students from varied backgrounds and with varied abilities. We have learned from our colleagues, excellent, experienced mentors who have worked with our school, and -- most of all -- from the children. As a school community, we have innovated new programs and approaches to respond to the needs of the children who came to us and called for strong, creative, resilient teachers. We have weathered a global pandemic, figured out hybrid modes of teaching in person and online, and created a vibrant community. We serve around 700 students from preschool through eighth grade and their families. We are blessed by local partnerships, such as the urban farming program that allows us to actively work (using biodynamic approaches) on several acres of land near our campus. Our school is filled with life and vitality and daily learning by adults and children as we daily strive to create a space that honors the tradition of Waldorf education and adapts to humanity's and our community's current needs.
