PRACTICE OF HOPE
In Matthew's Gospel, Jesus points to signs to show John's disciples who he is. Healing of physical bodies and good news to the poor: prophesied in the words of Isaiah, these signs point toward a new reality, a new era in salvation history. But what is it we hope for? When we look around, we often see that things are not as they should be. We wonder about the mysteries of suffering and death, which come from all but some in the most unjust of ways. We proclaim that Jesus has come and is coming. We proclaim both death and resurrection. We say that we do not know why terrible things happen, but we do not believe suffering has the last word. What suffering do you most need God to transform? Invite God into those dark places so that from them can come new life.
Please continue to self-screen. Stay home if you are not feeling well and celebrate Mass with us via livestream. We are doing our best to continue to provide a safe space to worship for everyone. Click here to see current COVID safety measures.

CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SERVICES APPEAL FOR THE POOR
This Weekend, December 10-11
|
|
The CCSWW Appeal for the Poor Campaign is this weekend. At Mass we will hear from Griffin Cole, the Eastside Coordinator for the CCS Volunteer Program. CCS/CHS are our local Catholic Charities at work serving over 77,000 Western Washingtonians across 180 programs every year. We encourage you to prayerfully consider how you might join the thousands of volunteers and staff this year in supporting our neighbors in need through prayer, advocacy, volunteerism, or a generous donation.
For those who have never given, an anonymous donor has offered $10,000 to incentivize new parish donors. The first 100 new households who give at least $100 will have $100 of their gift matched–doubling your impact! Your gift, no matter the amount, will help extend hands of hope this holiday season.

As we look back over the Spring through Summer months, we really got a lot done around here. Now that we move into winter months our focus changes to more indoor type projects, but we always have things to do around this 8-acre parcel of beautiful grounds. Please let Greg Leptich (cell 206.940.4072 or gleptich@sjvkirkland.org) know if you are willing to help.
-
Father Vu’s “Doors of Heaven” project is mostly complete. We have heard many positive comments about the light and versatility it has added to the church. As promoted at this year’s Gala Auction, Phase II, the walkway and meeting area is coming up. The Auction raised $50,000 for this next phase and we will begin with getting a design for the landscaping and future gathering area. If anyone would like to help in this and/or has experience with landscape architecture, we invite you to come join us. Again, please let Greg Leptich (cell 206.940.4072 or gleptich@sjvkirkland.org) know.
- With the refurbishment of the Madrona Stump Madonna by the McDermotts, the new Mother Mary statue by numerous donators, the wooden Stations of the Cross by the late Don Bornhoeft and the Rose Garden area in Vern Endres’ name, we have several lovely reflection areas around these beautiful grounds. Thank you again to all of you that have made this all happen!
- The Rectory has gotten a major overhaul this past few months. It has a massive new concrete driveway and front walkway, an all-new chimney, a new beautiful cedar fence and a new fresh coat of paint top to bottom!!! All this work was quoted out at about $50,000 but between volunteers and some very healthy donations by a few individual parishioners it only cost the parish about $15,000! Thank you again to all of you who were involved!!!
- A great big thank you to our fabulous Facilities Committee and their dedication, and Tony’s Adopt-a-Bed team! Be sure to follow Tony’s “Bed of the Month” recognition and check out what volunteers are doing to make our home a beautiful Light on Finn Hill.
- The Master Gardeners are doing so much with that little plot of grass in the north gravel parking area. This summer they were able to donate over 200 pounds of produce to a local Food Bank! Great to partner with them as they do so many good things. Go by and check it out.
We can always use help around here, both inside and outside. If you have a particular skill, or just like puttering in particular areas, please let Greg know, gleptich@sjvkirkland.org, 206.940.4072 or leave your contact information at the front desk.
