Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector (Vol. 4, Issue 22) which happens to be the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to Data & Analytics companies who share our passion for serving the Public Sector. As weeks come and go in the business of publishing this newsletter fifty-two times per year, the content in this week’s issue truly stands out over most and the theme appears to be Open-Source Intelligence (aka OSINT). BTW – this theme is not just limited to the highlighted items listed below – instead, Open Source Intelligence seems to pervade throughout. We hope you enjoy!
Also, if you can, please take a moment to share our newsletter with anyone whom you think might find it useful and/or interesting ... as the saying goes, "the more, the merrier!" - Click here to subscribe.
In other data news, on May 3rd, Government Computer News published an interesting article entitled, Open-source intelligence: The new frontier of digital investigations. In this article, Yossi Ofek describes how end-to-end open source intelligence solutions that can automatically collect, analyze and structure information in a user-friendly way can help investigators get actionable insights from mountains of online data.
- “Public government databases also represent a rich source of OSINT data, including mortgage information, titles, real-property data, deeds, licenses and business records. Public government data can prove ownership of legal entities such as businesses and real estate. However, public data can be challenging to find, because each government agency stores and manages its data differently, which has traditionally required manual searches. OSINT data can also come from professional and academic publications, as well as gray literature including technical reports, patents, working papers and newsletters. This data can help build a complete profile of an individual during the hiring process or before issuing loans, grants or funding.”
