Modern-day dairy crisis facing industry
Between 2003 and 2020 there has been a 55% decrease in the number of dairy farms operating nationwide. Dairy farmers are facing rising costs of production and current dairy prices aren’t covering them. Congress is trying to determine the level of government invention needed to prevent a further exodus of dairy farmers.
“We are in the midst of a modern-day dairy crisis,” shares Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y. in opening up a Senate Agriculture Committee hearing Sept. 15 on the volatile milk price and federal milk marketing system.

ADSA joins in inclusion of the Bioeconomy Research and Development Act of 2021 in Competitiveness Package
ADSA joined 34 other science, technology, engineering, medicine, and mathematics organizations and institutions in urging Congressional leaders to include the Bioeconomy Research and Development Act of 2021 as part of a larger competitiveness package moving forward. The letter noted that the rapid acceleration of discovery demonstrates a need for better cross-agency coordination, greater technology needs, and data sharing infrastructure. The Bioeconomy Research and Development Act of 2021 will create a national initiative to advance engineering biology and strengthen the ability to translate scientific discoveries into tools, technologies, and therapies that will benefit Americans, our economy, and the world at large. You can read the full text of the letter and past letters in the Advocacy section of the ADSA website.
