Special Requests from Luther Rice - As Deacon Kathryn announced on Sunday, it has been a month since our last drive-by food collection. This means that we are looking forward to a bounty of items to deliver on Saturday across the street to Luther Rice for their food distribution program to the community. Yes, it is hard to believe that this Saturday is the 3rd Saturday of January. After our food collection in the parking lot from 11:00 to 12:00 noon, we will drive everything across the street. Deacon Kathryn has provided our standard list of suggested items in this eVoice. Once again, we also want to add the following items to that list as they are specifically requested by Luther Rice:
1. Cans of hearty soups (very much in demand during the cold weather months)
2. Cooking oil (also on the regular list)
3. Individual bags of healthy snacks, such as trail mix, nuts, etc. (best to avoid chips)
4. Individual boxes of shelf stable milk (yes, can be a challenge to find, but they are out there in different places in different grocery stores)
Once again, we thank you very much and look forward to seeing you on Saturday. Come as soon after 11:00 as you can. "Workers" will need to bundle up. Predicted high of 25 degrees. BRRR!
Annual Meeting scheduled for Sunday February 6 - If you are a leader of a committee or ministry at Good Shepherd, the office needs your emailed 2021 report of last year's activities by Monday January 31.
As we prepare for Good Shepherd’s Annual Meeting on February 6, the Nominating Committee would like to announce Becky Parks and Ray Battistelli as candidates for Vestry. Good Shepherd’s Vestry, in conjunction with the Rector, oversees the work of the church and there is important work to be done in these next few years. One three-year Vestry positions and a two-year Senior Warden position are still to be filled. If you are interested, please email Deena Groshong ( crossstitch61@gmail.com). Since candidate announcements are to come one month before the Annual Meeting, all future candidates must be nominated and seconded from the floor during the Annual Meeting.
Annual Pledge Drive – As of January 6, there are 58 pledges totaling $244,726. Thank you to all those who have thus far made a financial commitment. Don’t worry, though; It is never too late to pledge! Please go to Good Shepherd’s website (www.gsecmd.org), to fill out a pledge form or pick up a pledge card from the desk in the Narthex and drop it into the lockbox. Thank you.

Grocery Shopping for Our Food Collection Outreach (1st and 3rd Saturdays) . Next Food Drive January 15.
All nutritious staples are happily received. Here are some healthy items to consider:
- Tuna, Salmon, or Chicken, in water
- Dry or canned beans (low sodium, if possible)
- Natural nut butters
- Brown rice (16 oz)
- Whole grain pasta
- Pasta sauce in plastic jars
- Canned vegetables (low sodium, if possible)
- Canned fruit (in juice)
- Fruit cups
- Shelf-stable milk in individual milk boxes
- Cooking oils and spices
(Those of us who deliver have noticed that large boxes of dry cereal are easily squished when piled up and not the best choice.)
Another Way to Help Provide Food for Our Neighbors - Saint Luke Lutheran Church has switched its food outreach from the food pantry to which we contributed for years to the distribution of Giant Grocery cards.
1. Go online to Saint Luke Lutheran Church, Silver Spring, MD. Click on Giving. Then click on Online Giving. Fill in the amount you wish to contribute next to COVID-19 Hunger Relief and follow the instructions from there.
