Small Business Week
We celebrate National Small Business Week. Since 1963, National Small Business Week recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.

We Celebrate National Small Business Week in the Skowhegan Region by hosting events designed to educate small business owners, create networking opportunities and support small businesses throughout the greater Skowhegan Region and beyond.
Teacher Appreciation Week
We invite you to help us celebrate Maine’s outstanding educators. Appreciating our teachers is always important, but given the heroic effort of our schools this past year to meet the needs of learners during the pandemic, we owe our teachers even more gratitude! We are hoping to make sure all of the Somerset County Mainers who work in our schools feel valued and ensure that the nutritional, educational and social/emotional needs of our students are met!

If you are in a position to help us celebrate teachers and other school personnel, please think about what you can offer (discounted services, complimentary meal, beverages, etc.) and complete/submit the following form. We recognize that businesses have also been impacted by this pandemic, and hope that this recognition will be mutually beneficial for lifting educator spirits and increasing patronage for local businesses. We will publish the gift your business is offering in our newsletter and on all of our social media channels to promote and to thank you!

Meet the Reps
The Chamber of Commerce hosts “Meet the Reps,” an event that brings members of the business community and public together with elected officials at all levels of government. This is everyone’s chance to ask questions, hear updates, provide input and meet your representatives. The events are from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. The forums are free and open to the public.
Member Appreciation Month
During a month of the year, the Chamber recognizes the many industries our members belong to on social media. The public is asked to tag their favorite businesses in each industry for a chance to be randomly selected to win a prize donated by a SR Chamber Member. After each poll is closed, the Chamber posts each member that falls under the corresponding category. This social media campaign gives our members far reaching exposure to our community.
Member Orientation
Chamber Member Orientation is held quarterly by the Chamber for members to familiarize themselves with the mission, programs, benefits, events, etc. that are available to them through their membership in the Chamber. The Board of Directors, Committee and Event Chairs and Chamber Staff in attendance are all introduced to those attending. Likewise, each attending member is asked to introduce themselves and give a brief overview of their business and what they are interested in receiving from their Chamber membership.

Summer Movies
Free and Fabulous Family Fun in our Neighborhood

Summer Movies in the Park is a perfect chance to relax and enjoy a safe and special night under the stars. Come early and get a good seat! The Summer Movies in the Park event series began by giving local residents a reason to visit their local county and city parks for a free and safe evening event. This well-attended community activity deterred inappropriate after-hours park use and loitering and gave residents an opportunity to feel safe in their local park, thus encouraging future visits.
National Night Out
We team up with the Skowhegan Police Department for A national community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

Maine College Circle - Somerset Fund
Empowering the next generation of Maine . . . through aspirations, education, and effort. To inform and inspire early aspirations . . . to empower the youth of rural Maine . . . to build a brighter future for themselves . . . and for their communities.

Aspirations are what keeps a student motivated to learn and to improve his or her potential and ability and future opportunities. Aspirations are what moves a community forward, economically and culturally.

Many years talking with high school students about their opportunities beyond high school convinced me that if we are serious about raising aspirations to build a brighter future for the student and for the community, we must start talking with students long before high school. If they have no aspirations heading into high school, it is not a great experience for anyone.

Since 2012. the schools and communities of Skowhegan, Canaan, Norridgewock, Smithfield, and Mercer have recognized the effort and aspirations of 278 students in grades 3 - 6 by awarding them Somerset Future of Maine College Aspirations Scholarships and celebrating them in the community.

Please support the future of your communities . . . and some great kids!

Skowhegan Regional Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (PAC)
Contribute to our PAC (Political Action Committee): SRCME is the Skowhegan Regional Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee (PAC). Our “PAC” allows Skowhegan Regional Chamber members and members’ employees to financially support candidates who support our industry. Our PAC is the “on the record, ethical system for supporting candidates and industry issues. We must support candidates who believe in our region and support our issues. Political decisions in Augusta and Washington determine your ability to do business in Maine and earn just a profit. Failing to pay attention to what Government is doing to business in general and to our industry is like ignoring a major new competitor in your neighborhood. You would not ignore the actions of your competitor. Can you afford to ignore the actions of Government? Government has been ignored for so long Maine is now ranked 1st in Taxation and 48th in the nation as a “business friendly state.” The important thing is to elect the best candidates who will strive to balance the budget, lower the tax burden on Maine citizens and get our economy moving again! It is your PAC, Your Choice, Your Voice! It requires Your Action!
